2500hd Newbie

I just purchased a 2004 GMC 2500HD, and I love it.

But I do have some questions:

1) Can someone run my VIN? (1GTGK23U14F135848)

2) The truck has 285's for tires and I noticed alittle rub, is there anything else I should be concerned with?

3) The Speedo /Cluster locks up, the dealership is going to replace, will they be able to calibrate for the 285's?

4) The truck had a plow on it, what should I look for now that it gone?

5) The truck says 59K miles, with the 285's I know that's wrong, is there anything I should be aware of with a truck hitting around 60K?

6) Is there anything else that I should pay attention to?

7) Can anyone give me directions to mods on this stereo? CD/XM/Bose

THanks for any help you guys can provide

John

Welcome and nice truck!

Here's what I can help with...

1) Can someone run my VIN? (1GTGK23U14F135848) not me, but someone will respond who can I am sure

2) The truck has 285's for tires and I noticed alittle rub, is there anything else I should be concerned with? no, mine rub a little too, unless it bothers you don't worry about it

3) The Speedo /Cluster locks up, the dealership is going to replace, will they be able to calibrate for the 285's? normal problem on those as I am sure you noticed when the dealer offered to replace it, yes they can calibrate it

4) The truck had a plow on it, what should I look for now that it gone? maybe a little more wear on the front end, but if it drives good, then don't worry about anything.

5) The truck says 59K miles, with the 285's I know that's wrong, is there anything I should be aware of with a truck hitting around 60K? it's not wrong by more than a few thousand depending on how long the tires have been on there, transmission service if it hasn't had one, and maybe diff fluid check-couldn't hurt

6) Is there anything else that I should pay attention to? not that I can think of

7) Can anyone give me directions to mods on this stereo? CD/XM/Bose Not me-I like that stereo fine-it's what I have in mine too.

Enjoy the new ride!

Very nice looking truck, looks great with the tires and the color.

Just for the record though that is a 2500LD, not a HD. There is not much of a difference between the two except for some options and the payload.

Good luck with the new truck.

Never heard of a 2500LD, the badge says 2500HD

They were actually called either 2500 or later 1500HD but many refer to them as a light-duty 2500. The reason for this is that Quadrasteer was never available on the 2500HD and there is no black spacer between the bumper and the grill like a 2500HD. The previous owner probably changed the badges on the truck.

Once again, very sharp truck.

Nice catch with the badges guys-I checked the VIN on my auction guide and it's a 2500, not a 2500HD. Not that it really matters that much anyway other than about $800 difference in value. Hopefully the place you bought it from didn't represent it as a 2500HD-actually in essence they did by not checking the VIN. S-Ten is correct that they never made a 2500HD with Quadrasteer. Either the previous owner or the car lot changed the badges. It's hard to say if anything dishonest was done intentionally.

Now I'm feeling ripped off, I just bought this from a dealer. Now I'm worried that this truck won't pull my 9K lb boat comfortably.

A properly set up 1500 CAN pull 9K. Your 2500 will have no problems.

Hmmmmm.........................Swapped badges, a quadrasteer/dually box on a

single wheel truck..............

I'm thinking a bad Carfax, salvage rebuild unit !

Anyhoo.....Heres pics showing the differences of the front of the LDs vs. the HDs

Due to the fact the LD uses the shorter height 1500 frame.

Note the filler panel between the bumper and grill.

It will pull just the same as an HD-and if all it is are the badges, then you still have a really nice truck. Whether the dealer switched any badges or not, it is still their responsibility to sell you the correct vehicle. I would definitely expect to get something from them.

no no no no no-the quadrasteer box looks like that-they have the lights and all like a dually. Lets just hope the badges were switched.

    • New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?
    • So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
    • Hey everyone, I recently had an issue with my 07 2500HD GMT900. My DRL’s stay on at all times. Right front turn and right mirror turn signal indicator stay on solid at all times. By “at all times” I mean the only way to make them go off is disconnecting the battery. I tore the headlight assemblies out, tried disconnecting the harnesses to eliminate bad wiring at the harness, I unplugged the headlight switch, no change and the mirror turn signal still stayed on. My first thoughts were : Bad bulb and/or socket somewhere, under hood fuse panel bad, bcm bad, tail light or trailer wiring problem, or some random short to power in the harness.  Possibly a bad ground but unlikely. I had a big clue in the fuse panel, it had a burnt smell. I started pulling every fuse that had to do with DRL or right turn/park lamp. Nothing made the right directional turn off but pulling the DRL2 fuse made the DRL’s go out.  After studying wiring diagrams, I found that both problems had that fuse panel in common, the bcm also controls both problems but knowing the fuse panel had a burnt smell I removed and disassembled the fuse panel and found a little corrosion on the printed circuit board.  I ordered a new fuse panel from Amazon for like $260. When it arrived I installed it, and put everything back together, the problem was fixed. I figured the fuse panel needed to be replaced anyway so that was a logical place to start. Hopefully this story helps someone in the future. Regretfully I didn’t scan for codes before I did everything.
    • That stinks. I’m sitting on the side of the road right now with the same issue. Never had an issue before taking it in for the ground strap recall. Now I’m outside of warranty and they’ll probably want $200 just to diagnose what they already “fixed”.
