2001 Fuel Gauge

I have a 2001 gmc extended cab 4x4 with the 4.8L. Just bought it and the old owner just installed a fuel pump. The fuel low light keeps coming on and the fuel gauge wanders. He said it work like this since he owned it. It acts like a loose wire to me. Anyone with a wiring diagram or some hints.

There are some TSBs out there concerning this and I know GM did replace some under warranty.

 

I would try a bottle or 2 of Chevron's Techron before you do anything. Just be sure you have the full strength stuff and not the fuel inj cleaner with Techron. Run it at 1 oz per gallon and do so for 2 tanks. It is a great product and many times will clean the contaminents from the sensor and make it work properly.
