well i noticed that i'm loosin tread quick on my yoko's so i think i'm gonna start lookin at tires... and i wanna go 285's cuz i plan on going with a 3" lift sooner or later.. and i dont want my truck to look all out of proportion..

what are the usual mpg losses when going from 265 to 285??? if i were to do an intake and exhaust would i basically make back up for it?

thanks for your help in advance..

steve

MPG should go down about 1 mpg id say, ride will suffer with higher load ratings, exhaust usually drops it, its just for tone basically, and intake didnt do jack on my truck so I sold it plus it sounded like crap sucking in as much as it did.

my brother went from the factory 245s on his duramax and got some really horny 285 M/Ts can`t remember the brand but they are aggressive, he lost nearly 3 MPG! he`s gonna get some A/Ts next time, i know i lost nearly 1MPG when i went to 265s from 245s on my GMC but they were mud tires too, i now have 265 A/Ts and its back to the same. I HAVE seen 6 ply 8 ply and 10 ply 285s i had 6s they rode very nice and soft, now i have 10 plys and they are rough as a dump truck, wanted the 8 plys but wern`t available at time of purchase, i may sell them to a buddy and find some 8 plys

I wish I could tell ya how much I lost in MPGs on my trucks when I put 285s on but I didn't give a shit. I didn't notice any power loss either but I did put an K&N FIPK intake and hypertech on about the same time. But when I did the lift with the bigger rims and tires I went from 17ish MPGs to 15ish MPGs...and definately felt like a little loss of power. It's a trade off but one well worth it IMO!

It was maybe .5 mpg? Really I didnt see any significant/noticable change. No power loss either. Only thing that I noticed was more grip and less wheel spin (stock f stones sucked). As far as $715 that doesnt sound bad. I just bought 3 tires last fall and they were $715 and some change. I had a brand new one on the spare so I use that to save some $$$. Where are you buying? Discount tire was the cheapest here. If your looking into an MT look at the 255/85/R16s, much cheaper and a little taller (not as wide). I run a set in the summer
