Thinking Of Selling...

Well, I'm thinking about maybe selling this:

and getting a "98ish Suburban 4X4 to use in the snow and to tow the camper, and a little Toyota car or something to commute in. I think I can get enough for the truck to buy both, and maybe a little utility trailer too. What You guys think?

I'd just keep the truck. It's newer, nicer, and much more reliable than going to an older truck. Not to mention most folks aren't going to get as much as they think when selling their vehicle. So if ya still owe anything on it, that could be a factor.

Since I'm guessing you'd be making this move due to MPG, only you can really do the math to see what adds up for you based on how much you drive, what you owe, etc. Just don't forget to factor in higher maintenance costs that go with older vehicles.

By the picture, it looks like your 06 is a 2wd. If you're needing a 4x4, do what you gotta do.

Myself, I am starting to think about a project for a commuter as well. I was first looking towards a lifting a Suzuki Vitara, but they really don't get decent MPG's for use as a commuter, but would be a lot of fun on small off-road trails. So now I'm thinking about turbocharging a Suzuki Swift/Geo Metro. Some of the YouTube videos sure do make these things look like scary fast road go-carts.

Depends on main use of present truck.

And available parking spaces at residence.

Me, I have mostly always had a truck as a 2nd vehicle. Second is a good used small car. Obtaining a good used small car is not easy or easy if you want to pay a price.

MPG is a problem now specially for those that use truck for primary transportation and do have to drive many miles per day.

There is eBay and Craigslist. But both are a real hassle at times. Most people just don't know how to describe the conditon of a used vehicle. I recently viewed 3 cars from eBay, one in Florida, one in New Jersey, and one in Massachusetts. All had great write ups. Nice pictures. But when actually viewing car - multiple problems, rust not seen in pictures, broken items, etc.

If I were buying a new car it would be a Honda. Go to eBay and look at the used car prices for any Honda with any high miles on odometer.

I'd also conside a Yaris or Fit. Yes, small cars.

It's a tough call. To trade in such a nice looking truck. I hope you do keep it.

You got to do what you want and can live with. Me I have always wanted a truck and finaly got one last may, then this pass winter my wife got a RAV4 with the V-6 so lots of room for camping gear and can tow a small pop-up. Now using the truck for camping and towning a small pop-up was the plan, but now with gas prices I don't see if we were going to go on a trip the RAV4 is what we use, but being as we are looking to buy a house soon and a truck will be nice for getting lumber, plants, ect I think I will keep it, besides I drive 16miles a day, so unless I get a good good deal on a used VW TDI that gets 40mpg city nothing else really would even save enough to make it worh it.

Just remember you have to be happy and live with your choice.

I didn't have alot of money as a kid and my 1st car was a Geo Metro, funny how I had a car that go 30+mpg in the city when gas was $0.99/gal. Funny how each car I go to gets bigger and worse gas milage.

1993 Dodge Caravan

2004 Chevy Silverado.

1st 3 cars combined cost me les sthan $4K, so needless to say the truck is the 1st car I bough that I wanted!

Yes, the Sierra is a 2wd, and I now live where it snows a little, so a 4X4 would be nice. But there are several reasons I'm considering this.

1: 4x4

2: Suburban has more room inside for the kid, his friends and all their junk

3: I'm kind of tired of stressing over taking care of a new truck.

4: I need something that gets better mileage.

I once had a little Geo Metro. Can't say it was any kind of Hot Rod, 3 cylinder automatic, but the 40 mpg was kind of nice. maybe I'll find another one of those...

2: Throw their shit in the back, you do have a crew cab.

3: Stressing over a new truck? An old truck would be worse.

4: I personally don't think you would come out even. Maybe worse off.
