2006 Gmc Sierra 1500 Still In The Game?

I am considering purchasing a red 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab SLE 4x4 5.3 V8. The truck has only 1280 miles and has a 6 inch lift, new rims/tires/tow package, exhaust already done to it (dealer states $8k of extras). Its got everything that I want in truck and I still love the body styling of the 06's. The KB is 27k without options and the dealer is asking 31k + tax/license fees.

 

My question: Do you think I should be able to bring the dealer down in price? Even though the miles are low, its still the older model, 2yrs old after I drive it off the lot and its only about 3/4k less than a new truck of the same caliber (of course without all the extras).

 

And because it seem like in the news that all the dealerships are low on sales and hurting that they should be giving better deals. Any ideas on what would be a fair price? I was thinking $28k would be fair...just need another opinion. I can link the vehicle if needed.

BTW, this will be my first entry into the truck market..all I've owned in the past was sports cars, but owning a house I really need a truck. Did I say that I got the approval from the wife already!

WOW... 31K for a 2 year old truck? WTF? Why does it only have 1200 miles on it? You are buying a lifted 4x4 for your first truck? Have you considered the 10 MPG you are going to get with it?

 

Far too many questions for me to recommend such a buy. You can buy a really nice 4x4 1500 CC here for 28K and that's an 08.

look up the truck with the original equipment in kbb.com. look at the trade in value and minue 6k and hats what the dealer payed for it. then add the upgrades and see if the prices match and you know what price to offer.

You could get a very nice Sierra Denali for that price. It all depends on your taste.

def talk it down. if it was 2005, then id say yeah. but that truck is 3 years old- and its been sitting no less. and who knows who/when the lift was done and such. the lift would be bout 3 grand to do (here in ny anyway, the kit is 1500 alone) and an exhuast would be bout 500.

 

dont the certified used cars come with the 5 year/100k mile warranty now too? push to make sure the lift is covered too.

I have not purchased a new truck in 28 years. Always used trucks since my new black 1980 Dodge 8' stepside.

 

But I never purchased a newer used truck. $3,800.00 is what I paid for my 1990 chevrolet 1500 8 years ago. And that was the most expensive used truck to date.

 

And before I purchased my 2008 GMC Sierra, I extensively looked at used trucks. Unless you know exactly what you are doing and know about mechanical and body - take this truck to an independent mechanic and have it checked out. Do a CarFax. If this was a trade-in ask to speak with previous owner.

 

Me, I would never spend this kind of money for a used truck when a new one can be had for similiar or not much more money.

 

And note: Dealerships, as a general rule, make more money on used vehicles than new ones.

Whenever a newer vehicle is modified and sold used, typically, you can assume the owner ate the cost of the modifications, they're just not going to get back what they put into it. Take the KBB price, add NOTHING for the mods, and if you're willing to pay THAT price, then go for it, otherwise I think it's waaaaay to high.
