03 Tahoe Bose Non-lux Nav Question (vss Wire)

My wife has a 03 Tahoe Bose Non-Lux. She just purchased a factory touch screen Nav unit from ebay with the antenna and disc. I know that I have to have the vin cleared at the dealer, but my question is, Do I have to hook up anything such as a VSS wire that I have read in other posts? Or is it a simple plug and play since it is a Non-Lux head unit she bought. Thanks for any help

You can hook it up but you don't have to. I don't recommend it. I had teh factory NAV in my '03 Yukon (installed myself) and the NAV was very smooth without the VSS. Remember, connecting the VSS will activate you Big Brother controls and you won't be able to mess with the NAV while you are driving. (leave it unhooked, you'll like it better)

Thanks. I figured since it was a factory unit going in that I shouldn't have to hook up anything extra...but after reading through a few posts, I wasn't sure. The unit has a disc and a antenna, so I should be good to go. When you installed it in your Yukon, was it pretty straight forward?

I connected the VSS in mine, but I added an inline switch under the dash to easily disable it. It's not too hard of a job to install the Nav. There are some great instructions on the Avalanche Forums. There's a huge post (15+ pages) with all the info you could ever want to know.

I put a factory Nav in my 04 Avalanche and didn't hook up the VSS wire. It hardly worked for the first couple of days as the unit learned, then it smoothed right out. I'm not sure if taking a long drive on a straight road might make it learn faster.
