True Price/invoice Pricing

Recommended Posts

Well as my luck has it no dealer wants to order a truck and also deal on the price. So I have been trying to find trucks close to what I want. Could someone run this vin and tell me what the invoice price really is and what the target price I should offer is?

There has been a few threads about this so I figured you guys could help me out.

Thanks

Guess they're all different. My local dealer said he'd give me a better deal if he had to order it because he didn't have to let it sit on the lot.

The MSRP will tell me more than the VIN will. I can't tell you exactly but I can estimate it.

Also include your state sales tax rate for me if you would.

There is a strike on a AAM so if you order a GM truck its gonna be a

LONG wait !!!!!!!!!!

The dealer wants to move a unit on the lot and if they think your a

serious buyer they would whip out the invoice anyhoo (unless its usually

a diesel or your in a certain area).

Use GM Buypower to find the truck you want. Then go from there!

When I ordered my Sierra back in January, no one had what I wanted, I went to three dealers. One pushed to take something off the lot but had nothing I wanted and was not very helpful to order one. Second dealer wanted a 500.00 deposit to get the truck I wanted and wouldn't talk any numbers until the truck came in. If the deal wasn't wanted buy buy 500.00. Finally went to a dealer who was willing to sit down price out exactly what I wanted and gave me a price for the truck and my trade before the truck came in. Just had to put down 200.00. They gave me the truck for the same "invoice" price that is listed on Edmunds.com when I priced the truck out their site. Picked it up on Presidents Day!!

The MSRP on the truck I listed the vin for was $36,200. It has a couple options I dont really want but if I were to order a truck it would sticker around $35k. Sales tax rate is 6.5% in the area I will buy the truck. I have been into a few dealers in the last month and none will show/tell me invoice price anymore. When I was "just looking" they had no problem but now that I want to talk numbers its a big secret. I tried using edmunds but their invoice price is different than what the dealers were showing me. I had a dealer offer to order one with a 1k deposit as long as I bought the truck for sticker price. Next dealer said $500 before they would order but wouldn't talk numbers but didn't have a problem offering me $500 less than wholesale for my trade. The local dealers know about the strike but none have said yes or no on if a truck could still be ordered and delivered in a timely manner.

I really want a GMC but they dont want to work as much as the local Chevy dealers do.

Sounds like you are having one heck of a time. Hope you get your truck! My sticker was 53k and i got them done to 47k.

Yeah this vehicle purchase has been basically the biggest run around yet. I know I am a young guy but this isn't the first nor second new vehicle I have bought. Guess the dealers don't think I am serious or something. I just know what I want and I am trying to be somewhat fair about it. I am willing to work but there is no way I am paying sticker and taking wholesale for my trade.

I think once I find out some true numbers I will just go into the dealer and hash out numbers on the truck first then talk about trade. I have tried that from the start but once they hear trade-in I know their thoughts change and that damn 4-square game comes out. Once I see that I basically leave since I know how they work it and I know I wont be getting a deal then.

I was with my brother-in-law today, shopping for a new 2008 Silverado 3500 DRW Duramax. The Chevy dealership had tow, obviously both crew cab long bed. One was a pretty well dressed up LT in Graystone Metallic and the MSRP was $52,000+ and the out-the-door price was $40,200.

The second was was full-dress with every possible option (DVD and such); MSRP was $57,000+ and the out-the-door price (title and 3 years license) was $44,000+.

I simply cannot believe the excellent prices; a full 12K off of one and 13K++ off of the other. And I thought I got a good buy on my 2006 Silverado 2500HD Duramax LBZ.

I wish I need a new truck!!!!!

I have been into both types of dealers, small town and big city. The small town dealer is the one trying to get me to put 1k down on an ordered truck and wholesale for my trade. The big city just wants me to buy something from the lot and wont work on the price of an ordered truck.

I am looking at an SLT or LTZ in brown or red with tan interior and they cant seem to locate any and try to stick me with black. Then I want 2wd but they try to stick me with 4wd.

Here's how I would handle it:

MSRP 36,200

Invoice 33,000

Rebate 2,000

Holdback 1,086

True Invoice 29,914

Tax 1,944

My sticker was 35,755. Out the door price 28,500 + TTL. No doc fee or any other for that matter. It is a lot easier to do it over the phone or by email. Use the edmunds site and email ten dealers from there. Tell them you are ready to buy before the end of the month. Out of those ten a couple will aggressively pursue you. Deal with their internet sales person. Out of the three that contacted me one offered 300 over invoice to start. I dealt from there. Just kept going back and forth between the three until I got down to where I needed to be. The economy sucks, gas is high, lots of trucks on the lots. You should shoot for 7-8000 of sticker for a truck in that price range. I wanted a gmc too. They were stuck on their price. I went back and forth with the chevy dealers and at the very end called the gmc dealer and asked if he wanted to beat it. He did. Make them send you the price in an email and the stock # or vin # of the truck you are talking about. GOOD LUCK!

Get the Consumer Reports price report for the truck you want. It will let you calculate the base invoice price plus destination charge plus invoice price of all installed packages/options less any dealer incentives and holdbacks, and give you a starting point for negotiation. You should exclude regional marketing cost from this number. Depending on the dealers, availability, and competition you should then be able to negotiate something reasonable from there, especially if they are hungry!

You did the same as me basically....emailed the internet sales departments of around 10 local dealers.

You got a little better deal than me though, my MSRP was around $33k and my OTD price was $27k. So you paid an extra $1k for $2k more in truck. If I could have made the upgrade to a 4x4 for the $2k sticker difference while only paying $1k more I would have done it. Maybe I should have pushed a little harder, though I did try to drop my price a bit more on the same truck and they refused.

But, at least for me GM was offering $3500 in rebates at the time on '07 silvys, and now they are only offering $2k, so you can add $1500 to our price and that's what he should expect to pay. I would recommend not buying now and waiting for that rebate amount to come up, but I realize that's not always an option.

    • I've installed cheap eBay new aftermarket digitizers before.  They work.  Did a bunch of Cadillac CUE (aka Cadillac's MyLink) for someone years ago.  They all worked fine after the repair.    That number 22740886, that is a component part # for GM.  You can use it to search, but its not something that's obtainable at the dealer level.     So pretty much any of these will work - 2015 Colorado Digitizer for sale | eBay

    • You can install tailpipes that direct the exhaust sideways vs the OEM one that goes straight back. There are several on the market, do you own research. HOWEVER, you need to make sure the Venturi vents are still intact, otherwise it will throw a engine code. There is a sensor somewhere that detects back pressure on the exhaust. And if it doesn't collect the correct metrics, it will throw the truck into limp mode.
    • "Teardown" is complete. Head surfaces are clean and ready, new intake is prepped and ready. Coolant drained and water pump is removed, radiator is removed, new hoses and pump are ready.   The replacement intake is also from a '95 (with I think 260k, the odometer said). Noticeably less pitting where it covers the rear coolant passages. I'm not sure if that's a tribute to more frequent use, more frequent coolant changes/upkeep, or if the intake was machined at some point. But it appears I found a good one.   My coolant hoses were original, and the lower hose still retained the factory spring inside. It's not really rusty, but it's got deposits all over it. Unsure if I should re-install it (will thoroughly clean it first). Someone said hose technology has gotten better since 1995 (has it?) and I don't need the spring. I think modern EPDM is what made those hoses last from 1995-2026, so it's a question of how much suction can the water pump really pull, and will it collapse the hose without a spring?   I'm stopped and waiting for parts, however.   When I first brought the truck home, the fan was intermittently hitting the radiator shroud. I could see someone had monkeyed with the shroud (put a bunch of cardboard as a spacer between the upper/lower shroud halves. Someone said the motor mounts have likely failed and the engine has sagged. I wasn't sure I believed that. The engine is really solid in its mounts: To remove the old intake I *just* nearly permanently welded to the heads with freshly cured RTV and gasket snot two weeks ago, I literally had to use the arms on my lift and a chain with a bolt attached to the intake to pull it loose. It almost picked the front of the truck off the ground before ....scuuuuuuuuuuup.... I could actually hear the gaskets tearing and it broke loose and the whole truck settled back down. Motor barely moved.   SO, those parts I'm waiting on... The lower radiator mounts/bushings had completely failed. The radiator needs to be insulated from the rad support, and the bushings help the rad stand at the correct height. The plastic "baffle" was also destroyed at some point. Someone had attached the shroud to it incorrectly, overlapping a joint that should have been underlapped, creating another suspect issue potentially causing things to hit the fan. Broken tabs, side is busted off, and it's perma-formed/bent where it was jimmied incorrectly.   The baffle? Unobtainum. Long since discontinued from GM, of course. Aftermarket/capa/chinese? Also unobtanium. In GM's infinite wisdom, it appears there are at least two different variations whether the Blazer is 2 or 4 door, and I can't yet tell if they shared the same part with the S-pickups. Plan B, if I can't find a viable used one, will be to create a bracket to re-assemble the critical joint I need to seal a gap with the shroud. But that will bug me, it won't be...perfect.   The water pump bolts appear to have been installed with...plumber's putty. I guess, sure, if it works...? I've found a few "backyard fixes" like that. Someone's been here before....   If I can't find someone to jam bamboo under my fingernails to fill my free time this week I think I'll install the driver's power window motor and replace the rear door speaker that's inop. I've got a genuine GM "9.5" ohm working replacement. Why GM used a non-standard resistance....nevermind. Of course they did, you can get more sound from a cheap factory amp that way.   And the saga goes on...
