I shelled out my rear. (grenade loc) I found a shop that sells a rebuilt with rewelded axle tubes and a Auburn limited slip for $950.

Is swapping the axle is as easy as it looks? I.e any tricks or warnings i should know before pulling the old one out?

i am also thinking of puting in a small lift block in the rear while I have the axle out. (adding 2") Do you stack the blocks or replace the factory block with a bigger one?

If you're talking about swapping out the entire rear assembly it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I would think the brakes would be the biggest PIA especially since you'll have to disconnect the lines and bleed the system afterwards. No clue on the lift blocks.

I got a 14 bolt sf for next to nothing. I dont think its worth $950 for those rears. I didnt even pay that much for my rear including everything that I put into it like:

Switched the axle shafts from 8 lug to 6 lug, I had to buy 3.73 ring and pinion since it came 4.10, minor install kit, disc brake conversion kit.

Prolly the easiest thing that you want to do is the 2 inch blocks! I started with 2in and switched out for 3!!!

This is for a nbs '99. The cheapest rebuilt axle was 950. 680 for the parts alone for me to rebuild.

There are no axles in junkyards for this new a truck in my state.

I would love a 14 bolt silverado axle. like from a vortec max. There are non to be found.

about the blocks, do I stack them (2" on top of the factory blocks)?
