Tachometer Problem That Fixed Itself

So I was driving on the freeway a couple of days ago - cruise control on goin' about 70 when I noticed that my Tach started to drop. RPM's were fine, and the engine was running as it should be - but the tach just started to slowly drift down to ZERO and below. There was no issue w/ speed or cruise control, just the tach. I arrived at my destination, stopped the truck and started it again, and the problem was gone. My concern is that I've read a few posts where people had a problem with their Tachometer, then the transmission quit shifting properly or something. Am I in for the same thing? If so, what can I do to take some pro-active measures?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!!

Brad,

Not sure what your truck is but I had my 04 GM gauge cluster replaced from the dealer as a factory recall. They had problems with them and decided to replace them no charge. My tach just died a couple of times, after I restarted the truck it was ok. Everything worked fine. I friend from work also had his 03 avalanche done. You may want to check if your truck is covered. Hope this helps, Cheers

I'm not sure if it will be covered - I have over 80,000 miles on it, and I bought it used... do you think that it may still be covered?

thanks
