Project Camaro

I've found a few locally that fit the bill for what I'm looking to start with. I've also found a few shops that sell custom built Coil-overs and race style. I'm toying with the idea of building the car completely on paper before buying one, spending lots of time researching the components before I even get the car. I'm thinking I'll get a used LS series motor/trans combo (last thing on the list to put in) and swap heads and intake first, then when the engine is bought in good condition running it like that (400-450HP) until the motor gets tired or I'm ready to pony up the cash for the sure to be $6000

plus rebuild, low comperssion with a high boost supercharger. My biggest problem now is figuring out what trans to use. if it was just a drag car it'd be simple, but a trans good for a road course that can take 750HP that bolts up to a LS motor and will take abuse and be reliable on a budget? I'm not looking to spend teh kind of money like a C5.R or C6.R transmission. The trans could be a project killer, as the idea is to built this on a "budget" (15, maybe 20K max)

But I gotta say, years ago, Mervz was trying to get me to get a C4 before I ended up with 1969 RS and I ran across a few on ebay and craigslist I like. So If I get one and it puts a serious hamper on the whole project, it's all his fault.

I've got a complete LS1 for sale if you are interested, harness, computer, A/C compressor, Alternator, etc.

PM me if you are interested.

Are you wanting to build the internals of whatever motor your going with? Might want to look into arp rod bolts and a studded head set up with the power your looking for. But yes a set of 317 6.0 heads on a 5.3 or LS1/6 should give you that drop in compression, plus their good heads to work with. Lately I've been partial to Prochargers, because I keep finding nasty set ups with Centrifugals. Not to mention they have many different sizes to choose from for your application, power band, power goals, low end torque or high end power, etc.

Also, a really good way to cheap out of a cam is getting a LS6 cam. It's a fact they respond to turbo's like gasoline on a fire! They make very impressive numbers in turbo apps.

I won't be spending anything major right now. Just looking for teh car, then I'll start the ground work(stripping it down, rollcage mock up, etc.).

But I've looked at a few late C4 Vette's today and they would seem to make a great, fun, fairly inexpensive weekend cruiser. I figure the later C4's probably won't loose much in way of resale value over the next few years since they are under 10K now.

Check these guys out for your transmission, I have heard nothing but good things about them.

might call them someday and get some more info, their prices aren't bad.

I'm think 5-600 for the car, 1000-1500 on interior(just seats, gages, roll cage(I know a guy that can help with that, maybe SOME dynamat), 3K for trans, 3K for suspension, 2500 or so for brakes would set me at under 11K. Say I got a used LS1/2 for under 2000K, that'd but the build 14K if you throw in 1000 in suprises. I could run the LS1 for a while and still have a sweet , fairly unique track car until I was ready for the overkill engine rebuild.

That's be a bit over 15K mark with new AFR heads and FAST intake.

hmmm......
