Yet Another Wheel And Tire Question!

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

I'm buying some new wheels for the Tahoe tomorrow and have a few questions and would appreciate some feedback before I pull the trigger:

1st. Here they are, what do you think? My Tahoe is Graystone in color. I'm debating whether to go charcoal or chrome...

2nd. I want to put on some Nitto Terra Grapplers 275/60/20's to replace the 275/55/20's currently on the stock rims. The tires will be just over a inch taller in diameter and the offset on the new rims should push them out about 10-15mm. Do you think they'll fit without a leveling kit? I have the optional retractable running boards. I'm not opposed to buying a leveling kit but want the new wheels and tires on in a bad way right now.

Thanks for your help,

Jeff

Sorry, but one more question: Is there a way to temporarily raise the front end on the Tahoes in case the new tires rub a bit? I can then order a leveling kit after the fact....

Thanks,

Jeff

Terra Grapplers are very square cornered... they may rub in the rear when turned fully. They look best on an off road style of wheel.

I think chrome would look better but I am not a fan of thin spoke wheels... They are pretty by themselves but way too much ugly mechanical stuff shows throught them. Lots of people fail to look at the wheels beyond the design. They will look different actually on your vehicle.

Just my opinion.

Anybody else out there want to crush my dream? Just kidding. They are going to mount the different rims up for me to compare. I have the same concerns regarding the thin spokes but I thought the rim color matching the body paint would look pretty sic.

I have a Steel Gray truck and I was also looking at some "Black chrome" wheels and fell in love with them. But after seeing them actually on my truck?

Glad I had them mount them up so I could see them first. It took me all of 5 seconds to remove them from my list.

Go chrome!!!

I like the look of dark wheels with graystone. I also agree with Bonez bout the thin spokes. Plus, that bling takes more work to keep it looking good.

Clearance wise - If its just a pavement pounder you might be able to get by. Anything to crazy and your new shoes could get a little too friendly with your inner fender. I'd put a leveling kit on anyway. They're pretty cheap and I think they improve the looks a lot.

Well I'm headed in there in about an hour. These decisions stress me out. Lotta dough to potentially make the truck look worse.

Here are two other options I can consider. Like the spokes better?

Are the second ones MB Gunner 6's? If so, I have them on my truck. I like the look a lot. I've had moments of thinking I should've gotten something with a little more flash. But, for the most part, I think they strike the right balance.

EDIT : If you click "Around Town" in my sig, there are some better pictures of the truck & wheels.

Look man, who cares what everyone else thinks? If you like them, its your car/money. Not trying to be rude but too many people care what others think. Its not up to them, its your decision to make. If you like the wheels, slap them babies on and roll.

Justin, I here ya bro. Although, there is a lot of experience on this board and I'm looking to see what people have done and liked. Maybe somone put on the same rims I'm looking at and said the color didn't match and they looked like dog sh*t.

Thats true, I didnt think about that. Your quest is an exception, although I see a TON of people asking, "do you guys like these?" Just makes me think. We are all individuals, show yourself off. Either way, good luck man!

Well went in today and the wheels looked horrible and the larger tires rubbed on the outside at full turn on the retractable running boards. Not a good day.

Not one to quit easy, I ordered the following to put on tomorrow

The rim has a different offset that pushes the wheel further in. I'm hoping that this will help the tire clear the running board and that a beefier rim will look better overall.
