Defective "gmc" Logo On Grill

Recommended Posts

I just noticed on my new 08 GMC Sierra that the big red "GMC" logo on the grille is defective. The silver inside/underneath the red translucent plastic is missing in a big large area in the bottom of the letter "M", so it appears black in that large area.

Since this is *inside* the logo, and it's obvious I could not have damaged it myself, is it covered under warranty? Will the dealer have to replace the whole grille, or can they pop off the logo part somehow? In fact, could I do it myself?

Anyone know the part number for the logo just to make sure the dealer orders the right part?

Thanks!

It should be covered under warranty. I wouldn't mess with it if I were you. If you try to replace the logo and mess up the grille that is not covered because you messed it up. Just let your warranty dollars work (thats part of what you pay for on a new vehicle).

I'm sure it's covered, on my 06 trailblazer, the gold bowtie on the rear hatch door, has like an aluminum foil on the inside and it was falling apart in side, took it to the dealer and they replaced it, no questions asked.

That's exactly the problem I was trying to describe - the part about the aluminum foil inside :fume:

99% of TBlaz's had that problem!

Bumper to bumper covers everything except accidents and modifications.

That is a BOLD statement.

Yep, go fix it if you wish. Or paint it to something different. I painted mine & like it better than stock, and my stock one was flaking inside.

Even if it wasn't under warranty they would probably replace it. GM wants that logo prominently displayed and perfect!

That is not a bold statement, warranty covers defects in materials/workmanship for 3/36 excluding wear and tear unless the wear and tear can be proven defective and not broken by cust. Used to work there at GM

and Cadillac used to replace the crest and wreath 'gold' emblem on those damn platinum and custom ordered cadillacs every 6 fu**ing months because it was not real 'gold', it was paint that would literally fade to a brownish color....not good when you pay 65K plus

I work for "GM" on the frontline; and if it was "everything except accidents and modifications" the warranty manual would be about 54 pages shorter. :nono:

edit for terminology: BIG differance between everything and defects in materias and workmanship!

that is interesting that it is worded different....the 'attitude' in the district field office (DVMs Field Office) was everything.....guess it is more restrictive on the front line (dealership?)

Well at our our dealership it seems like we cover just about everything, within reason that is!

Dealers carry a lot of liability in dealing with the customers. Anything "implied" could come back to haunt them later. I guess all I was trying to say is that the phrase "everything except accidents and modifications" would not come out of my mouth.

Our seats are f*cked up..... never in an accident.... not modified... :nono:

On a side note - in two hours I think im gonna run to Best Buy and get the 65" Toshiba 1080p that I have been dreaming over for the last few months.
