are we talking about a gmt-900? if so mine and many others do the same thing. after talking to a dealership about the problem they said it was nothing to worry about and that its just a " characteristic " of the truck.

most likely your ABS sensors will need to cleaned and or replaced.

this has a common issue with early GMT 800- models and i would think your 2004 will probably be effected as well.

my 2001 made similar problems and there was a recall on it to replace the sensors. well 2 recalls. first one didnt actually fix the issue. the first recall they updated the puter and second recall they replaced the senors and update computer. not exactly sure as i traded in the truck prior to the 2nd recall.

p.s. the problem i decribed would only happen uner 20-25 mph...hard decerlation as well

yes it is at low speed, and not always on hard braking but more often on soft braking, i feel like it would eventually cause me to rear end someone because if i decide to brake really late at one instance then it may change the actually stoping distance. i dont think its normal.

where can i find out if there is a recall?

thanks

Summary:

CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE UNWANTED ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) ACTIVATION. THIS CONDITION IS MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR IN ENVIRONMENTALLY CORROSIVE AREAS. THIS RECALL WILL BE LAUNCHED IN THE "SALT BELT" STATES OF CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MAINE, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WEST VIRGINIA, WISCONSIN AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA ONLY.

DEALERS ARE TO REMOVE THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR AND THOROUGHLY CLEAN THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE ON THE BEARING, APPLY RUST INHIBITOR TO THE CLEANED SURFACE, GREASE THE MOUNTING SURFACE, REINSTALL THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR, AND CHECK THE PEAK-TO-PEAK OUTPUT VOLTAGE TO ENSURE THE WHEEL SPEED SIGNAL IS WITHIN SPECIFICATIONS. THE RECALL BEGAN SEPTEMBER 22, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438 OR GMC AT 1-866-996-9463.

Notes:

I know several people who went through the sensor cleaning only to find the problem was a worn wheel bearing (myself included).
