I wonder if any of these options will be available as add ons to previous models. I would like to have that option UPF on my 07, that way I dont HAVE to use my onstar minutes if I dont want to and I can drive handsfree and be a little safer using the phone while driving.

So, if I'm reading that right, as far as the backup camera goes: if you have a navigation radio, the image will appear there. If not, it will appear on the rearview mirror. That's interesting. Bluetooth and the camera are two good additions for sure. I'm adding them myself, but it would have been nicer to have them there from the start.

Well they can keep all that fu fu crap - just let me get the 6.2L w/ an extended cab- I don't want a crew cab.

Looks like you will get your wish, according to what I am reading, it should be only available in the Extended Cab and Crew Cab configurations, not in the Regular Cabs, BUT it is only available with the Extended and Crew Cabs in the LTZ/1LZ as of this printing

If my 4l60 craps out on my 07, do you think you could swap for a 6 speed?

Nope, I would say that it would have a different brain and different mount points (Based on what is on the Sierra Denali and the Escalade EXT). Who knows, some aftermarket company may actually get an aftermarket solution going where you could drive up to their warehouse, have them swap your 4L60E out for the 6L80E down the road...

I really, really hope the GM Bluetooth system can be integrated rather seamlessly into my '07 SLT.........

that is, unless I'm restricted because it requires a BCM modification that is unavailable due to my power sliding rear glass

That Bluetooth question, I am dying to know the answer to. I am putting off my bluetooth kit purchase a little while longer to see if it can possibly be retrofitted

That Bluetooth question, I am dying to know the answer to. I am putting off my bluetooth kit purchase a little while longer to see if it can possibly be retrofitted :fume:

'09 looks like a great year for new gadgets :D

This is the absolute latest information that I could find regarding the Bluetooth system:

gmLogoFlat.gif Service Information

2008 Cadillac CTS | Cadillac CTS Owner Manual | Document ID: 2037260 Bluetooth® Vehicles equipped with a Bluetooth system can use a Bluetooth capable cell phone with a Hands Free Profile to make and receive phone calls. The system can be used while the key is in ON/RUN or ACC/ACCESSORY position. The range of the Bluetooth system can be up to 30 ft. (9.1 m). Not all phones support all functions, and not all phones are guaranteed to work with the in-vehicle Bluetooth system.

Voice Recognition

The Bluetooth system uses voice recognition to interpret voice commands to dial phone numbers and name tags.

Noise: Keep interior noise levels to a minimum. The system may not recognize voice commands if there is too much background noise.

When to Speak: A short tone sounds after the system responds indicating when it is waiting for a voice command. Wait until the tone and then speak.

How to Speak: Speak clearly in a calm and natural voice.

Audio System

When using the in-vehicle Bluetooth system, sound comes through the vehicle's front audio system speakers and over-rides the audio system. Use the audio system volume knob, during a call, to change the volume level. The adjusted volume level remains in memory for later calls. To prevent missed calls, a minimum volume level is used if the volume is turned down too low.

Bluetooth Controls

Use the buttons located on the steering wheel to operate the in-vehicle Bluetooth system. See Audio Steering Wheel Controls for more information.

(Push To Talk) : Press to answer incoming calls, to confirm system information, and to start speech recognition.

(Phone On Hook): Press to end a call, reject a call, or to cancel an operation.

Pairing

A Bluetooth enabled cell phone must be paired to the in-vehicle Bluetooth system first and then connected to the vehicle before it can be used. See the cell phone manufacturers user guide for Bluetooth functions before pairing the cell phone. If a Bluetooth phone is not connected, calls will be made using OnStar® Hands-Free Calling, if available. Refer to the OnStar owners guide for more information.

Pairing Information:

• Up to five cell phones can be paired to the in-vehicle Bluetooth system.

• The pairing process is disabled when the vehicle is moving.

• The in-vehicle Bluetooth system automatically links with the first available paired cell phone in the order the phone was paired.

• Only one paired cell phone can be connected to the in-vehicle Bluetooth system at a time.

• Pairing should only need to be completed once, unless changes to the pairing information have been made or the phone is deleted.

To link to a different paired phone, see Linking to a Different Phone later in this section.

2008 Cadillac CTS | CTS (VIN D) Service Manual | Document ID: 2128985 #08-08-46-001: Information on Bluetooth Hands-Free Technology - (May 5, 2008)

999999995.gif
Subject:Information On Bluetooth® Hands-Free Technology

Models:2008-2009 Cadillac CTS, CTS-V

with OnStar® (RPO UE1) and Wireless Interface Short Range, Voice Rec (Bluetooth Hands-Free Technology) (RPO UPF)

Beginning in model year 2009, most General Motors vehicles will have Bluetooth hands-free technology as either standard or optional equipment. Bluetooth is also being included as an interim change on the 2008 CTS. Vehicles equipped with this system can be identified by the option code Wireless Interface Short Range, Voice Rec (RPO UPF) in addition to the OnStar (RPO UE1) option. Bluetooth technology allows customers to use their personal cell phones to make hands-free calls utilizing the vehicle's steering wheel controls, speakers and microphone.

Not all features of the system will be compatible with all cellular phones or all service providers. Check the GM Bluetooth support website located at www.cadillac.com/bluetooth for phone specific compatibility information. This site includes a list of all phones that have been tested for compatibility with the system and details which features are not supported for each phone. It also provides phone specific instructions for interacting with both the cell phone and the Bluetooth system. In the future, this site will be accessible through www.gm.com/bluetooth, as well as through each brand website (i.e. www.pontiac.com/bluetooth, www.chevrolet.com/bluetooth, etc.).

Available Bluetooth Support Resources

• If a customer cannot resolve their concern through the use of the support website, the GM Customer Assistance Center can help with the pairing process and other common concerns. If the customer's phone is not listed on the GM Bluetooth website, support may be limited.

• A TECHAssist Training Module (VCIM Bluetooth® Operation and Diagnosis), course number 19047.16T1, is available on the GM Training website (www.gmtraining.com or www.gmprocanada.com). This course covers the basic operation and diagnosis of the Bluetooth system. There is also a 2008 CTS Bluetooth Launch Sales IDL available, U.S. course number B60CT.G8D (in Canada look for an upcoming IDL program and Product Plus sales training). A Bluetooth Quick Guide tri-fold is available at www.gm.launch.com for additional information.

• A GM Bluetooth Test Tool, part number 453-U260-000-R, is available to verify the VCIM's ability to pair with other Bluetooth enabled devices. This tool can also help diagnose other pairing concerns. It is available through GM Dealer Equipment (www.GMDE.net) or 1-800-GM-TOOLS (1-800-468-6657). An approved cell phone listed on the GM Bluetooth support website may also be used for diagnosis. For feature concerns, check the GM Bluetooth support website to ensure that the feature is supported for the customer's phone before attempting to diagnose the customer concern.

• For any hardware concerns not resolved through the GM Bluetooth support website or Customer Assistance Center, dealers will find technician support for Bluetooth related concerns through the General Motors Technical Assistance Center (GM-TAC).

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.

Diagnostic Instructions

• Perform the

Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.

• Review

Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.

Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provide an overview of each diagnostic category.

Circuit/System Description

The Bluetooth ® antenna is a small fixed antenna connected directly to the communication interface module (CIM) and is used to send and receive signals from a Bluetooth ® enabled cellular phone. The antenna utilizes no cabling and is not external to the vehicle.

In order to use hands-free calling, the cellular phone must be paired to the vehicle. Up to five devices can be paired to the vehicle at one time, but only one can be connected at any given time. To pair a phone, the customer must know how to operate the Bluetooth ® functionality of their phone. The pairing process must only be done one time for each phone, unless that phone’s information is deleted. For safety reasons, the pairing process is disabled while the vehicle is moving.

Diagnostic Aids

• The purpose of this diagnostic is to verify the ability of the CIM to pair to a Bluetooth ® device.

• Before performing this test, verify compatibility of the cellular phone(s) the customer is attempting to use with the vehicle. A vehicle and feature compatibility list will be provided via the GM Bluetooth ® website. Based on the cellular phone’s service provider and the manufacturer’s implementation of Bluetooth ®, not all phones support all available Bluetooth ® functionality.

• If the vehicle passes the following tests and a compatible device is being used, the concern may be due to a device malfunction or an incomplete/improper pairing attempt.

It appears that the Bluetooth System is housed in the Communication Interface Module with an antenna that goes inside the vehicle, not sure if this would make it easier to retrofit into other vehicles. In addition, GM has setup a website for Bluetooth:

http://www.gm.com/vc/bluetooth/

however it is only for Cadillac at this moment due to the Cadillac being the only vehicle line that carries bluetooth, but it does give a little more insight into what the system is and can do.

Well maybe if our current Communications Interface Module can not be modified, we can swap out a new CIM with the Bluetooth built in. Does the CIM in my '07 control anything other than my Onstar/Onstar Phone? Seems that since I already have all the voice commands, steering wheel controls, etc. as long as the CIM could "recognize" a Bluetooth phone I would already have everything else.

I'm more anxious for clarification on this than anything else. I can't tell you how many phone calls I miss due to not hearing my ringer over the blaring Bose.

To the best of my knowledge (along with the information at hand), the CIM also talks with the ECM (Engine Control Module) on the 2007 Silverado, so I would not have an answer as to a direct swap. I cannot say if the CIM's job has changed much with the 2009 Silverado, but I will try to keep everyone posted.
