Problems With '07 Sierra

Ok My dad bought a brand new 2007 GMC Sierra last spring and has had problems with it ever since and was wondering if some of you could help us out. First it vibrates when driving at around 40-50 mph. When he took it to the dealer for warrenty he had to take it back about 4 times to get an answer as to what was wrong and they told him that there was no fix to it and it was a design flaw. The only was to fix it was to put about 300 pds of weight in the back at all times. Which we all know you buy a truck to use the bed not have weight in it at all times. So he was mad and they said that they could only offer him an extended warrenty or pay 3 of his payments for him. He said No that it wasn't going to fix the problem and has a lemon law lawyer about it but we have yet to hear anything from then about it. Also the paint is chipping in places. We all know paint shouldn't be chipping and again the dealer told him it was stone chips and there wasn't anything they could do. So any help from the other gm techs would be helpful as my dad is looking to buy a different truck.

There isn't a TSB about the paint but GM knows there are issues with it being thin, runs, or even clear coat over primer. As for the vibration I would tell the dealer you want the wheels and tires rebalanced with the drum brake clips removed an alignment and if that doesn't fix it the drive shaft could be out of balance.

Have you tried rotating the tires and/or rebalancing them? I know the previous years had what was called "beam shake" (basically due to the design of the frame the chassis starts vibrating at certain road speeds, my 06 had that problem for a while) but the new body style's frame is entirely redesigned unless you have a "classic" model.

You should see if the dealer will change the tires out and see if it's either a wheel or balance issue.

As for the paint, well depending on your area it can chip, mine does and it's mainly due to having an aggressive tread on my tires that loves to pick up rocks.

A truck is not a Lexus. It was never intended to be a car. It will never ride like one.

A truck is designed to carry stuff. Unloaded, it will ride somewhat rough and be a little vibration prone due to the stiff rear springs. Sounds like the design flaw is in your dad. He apparently is one of the many who buy a truck without knowing what they are getting. I get tired of hearing about ride complaints. It's a TRUCK.

Perhaps he should buy a Buick.

The dealer replaced 2 of the tires and my dad wanted all four replaced because its four wheel drive and they said they could only replace 2 with the warrenty. After a couple daignostic checks and sending them to gm they said it was a design flaw. The paint chips aren't where rocks would hit theyre on the hood and in other areas as well.

This is not my dads first time buying a truck therefore I think he knows what hes looking for. Hes even bought gm's and they ride just fine loaded and unloaded. I was just seeing if anybody knew anything about these problems not to be insulted.
