Poor 4x4 Indication 2008 Sierra

Recommended Posts

I have a 2008 Sierra 2500HD with electronically controlled 4x4.

The 4x4 control knob is the only place that tells you if you are in 4 wheel drive or 2 wheel drive. This is done by a very tiny light in the knob itself. It is difficult to see.

Already, I have driven about 60 miles in 4x4 high on dry hardtop because I was not aware I was in 4x4.

I was wondering if anyone else has found this poor 4x4 indicator to be a problem?

There is supposed to be an indicator in the dash if you have a "Manual" 4x4 to show you when it is engaged. I wonder if there is a way to tie the electronic indication into this dash indicator?

The indicator light on the 4wd knob is very tiny. You have to check twice to see it sometimes. I feel your pain. Not sure if there is anything that can be done though :D

Welcome to the site

i agree too, but you should know weather ya put in 4x4 or not plus if you was on dry pavement and tried turning you would defiantly know it was in

I talked to a bunch of people who found themselves still in autotrac months after the snow was gone...light is way to small/dim.

It's a pathetic "design" for sure. There should be an indicator lamp on the instrument cluster that makes it plain that you are in 4WD. Every other 4x4 vehicle I have been in had one.

While I agree the indicator light may be a little small....Are people really this dense?^^^

I could have no light/indicator at all and I would know where my truck is set. Maybe I am more in "tune" with my truck than the average Joe, but I can tell by sound alone when I am in Auto4wd.

BTW...I agree,There should be an indicator light on the dash.

Although most of the time I can tell if I'm in 4-high or "auto" 4wd.
