What To Do With 20" Wheels And Tires

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new to the forum and will hopefully be picking up my new truck on Thursday. I've chosen an 08 Sierra SLE2 and plan on doing some mods. They have a truck on the lot that I really like but it has 20" wheels and tires on it. I really don't care for a lot of wheel and no tire. I'm going to 17"s and was wondering where I might get rid of the oem wheels and tires.

Thanks guys, I'm handicapped so they are going to be putting the wheelchair lift and things like that on it but we're looking at Thursday. I'll be buggin y'all for information on exhaust and a cold air box. I've been reading a lot of the posts here and man, what a wealth of knowledge. I look forward to chatting with y'all.

Welcome! TONS of info available here! Good luck with your new truck. BTW - 20's aren't so bad. I was reluctant to go with them on my Denali but they came stock. In hindsight, I don't think the ride suffers at all and they look good IMO.

Ask the dealer to swap for 17's off another truck. Tell him you don't want the truck unless he puts the 17's on. Even if you don't like the rims, you'll still have the right size tire if you decide to chage to aftermarket 17 inch rims. Make sure the 17's he gives you have the TPMS sensors.

When I bought my truck, they had 20's on it that I didn't like. I negotiated with the dealer to have them put the stock 18's on the truck and knock the price of the 20's off the sticker. I would suggest trying that route before you buy the truck and take a beating, trying to sell them.

+1, except it took me a year to figure out they were NEVER going to "grow on me". So, I sold them myself for $900 (stock 20's with tires) with about 9000 miles on them.

I would also suggest having the dealer swap them as long as they are willing to give you credit for them since they are a $1200+ upgrade from 17's.

Welcome to the site Ray, and congrats on the truck  I'll echo what others are saying and suggest that you ask the dealer to swap the wheels out. It's not uncommon for dealers to do this, and it will save you the time of unloading the wheels yourself. If that doesn't work for whatever reason, you shouldn't have any problem at all getting rid of brand new 20" truck wheels on ebay.

I'm really looking for something with a wider look and was told that a P285-70-17 was as wide as I could go with the level kit installed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to try and post the wheels and tires, tell me what you think.
