Time For A Tune

Okay....thought I was done with my truck (at least for now) a while back.........but no, now I'm getting tired of that "held back" for a few seconds then all of a sudden "wham" from the truck's electronics(stupid, STUPID torque management my '02 never had). Whats really starting to piss me off is the transmission performance while hauling 'yaks in standard (non tow-haul mode) in the moderate Piedmont VA hill country........downshifting, upshifting, downshifting, upshifting............screw that. I can feel the 'potential' power of my engine, and I can feel it being held back by shitty electronic governance.

I want a tune.

Looks to me like Blackbear is the way to go. Think I'm going to be calling him in the next day or so. Any pro's or con's?

The only thing is you are going to have to wait quite a while. I've lost count, but I think its been like 8 weeks since I got on his waiting list. Everything I have read about his tunes tells me its worth the wait.

If you don't want to wait, Charlie Wheatley is another great tuner. Check him out at www.gowheatley.com.

Based on his phone number, it looks like Wheatley is based in Houston, is that right? I see you're in League City....did you have it tuned in person? Wondering if he is willing to do that.

That's correct, he's in Houston. He has tuned 2 trucks for me both in person. He does tunes by mail also. I've been very pleased with his tunes.

Most folks love their custom tune, regardless of who they go with. Just about all of the custom tuners have been around forever and have lots of very happy customers. But if you have the option of getting it done in person, I'd go that route. Then you get him to fine tune any adjustments you need on the road, rather than having to send the PCM back later.

I agree. It takes me 30-45 minutes to get there but it's worth every penny.

I got a live Nelson Tune in San Antonio, it was well worth it. Truck runs great!

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for your tune?

375.00, he also flashed a set of pcm & ecm's so I can go back to stock whenever I want.

I'd say go for Justin at black bear he tuned my V-Max and it is a completely different truck. Dosen't Wheatly charge for updates?

Do you have a number for them? And how hard is it to go back to stock if I need to take it back in. That's the reason why I bought a handheld.

He has never charged me for an update but that would be a question for him. I have heard nothing but good things about blackbear tunes as well. Where is he located?
