Tow/haul Mode In D Or 3 ?

Ihave a 2005 Silverado Crew Cab Z71...5.3L/4.10 gears. I pulled my 25 foot Travel trailer for the first time the other day and I have never had a truck with this option before. I activated the Tow/Haul feature and left the truck in "D" on the highway. I noticed that at 60 mph with a slight head wind the truck was occasionally down shifting then shifting back to a nicer 2000rpm rev. The road is flat as a map as I am from the Canadian Praries where you can still see your dog running away for 10 miles. The question I have is should I have the tranny in 3rd instead of D ? I don't want to dammage anything. I was thinking that if it would tow without the shifting up and down at 60 that I would be fine, but in a situation where it want's to shift up and down while trying to maintain the 60mph I should shift it into 3 with the tow haul mode activated. What kind of advice can anyone offer?

No matter the speed I leave it in D with the Tow/Haul mode on and let the transmission make up its own mind. I have never had any problems.

Tow/haul adjusts your shift points. Gives you a few more revs to make getting up to speed easier.

Towing in D will build heat quick, even in Skatch. Tow in 3, it circulates tranny fuild faster allowing better cooling. I run about 2500 to 2700 rpm with 4.10s. It gets me there and keeps tranny cool.

Thanks, I am not too concerned about the fuel mileage between the 2 either. I just want to do what is the best for the truck.

An unlocked torque converter will cause a lot of heat build up so If it is willing to stay in one gear for the most part then tow in D. If it is constantly shifting then put it in 3.
