hi, i am new to this site. i just got a 2006 gmc sierra 1500 z-71 crew cab. i like the truck so far. i have had 4 chevrolet's in the past, but this is the first gmc. i wonder if it is something bad if the truck squeeks? like in turns or at take off, also could i get a vin check (for service history) for free? i hope someone could help me. thanks so much.....ed

GMC and Chevy are the same truck, so if you liked your Chevy trucks, yuo'll likely like the GMC.

You don't give us much to go on there but... Many squeaks on GMT800 trucks could be traced to body mounts. It was a pretty common issue. Some squeaked when taking off, stopping, or going into a driveway when the truck twists a little. I had the same problem on 2 of my 800 trucks. Loosening the bolts and re-tightening them with an impact usually took care of it on mine.

thanks for the input. it sounds like the same issue. i was hoping it wasn't from damage. not only is this the first gmc, but first white truck.(all other vehicles have been black) it has not got 2 hot in georgia yet, but it is cooler inside the truck..ed

Here ya' go...It has an open recall,and the tranny and steering gear were just replaced not long ago under the previous owners GMPP extended warranty (Sometimes it does pay to buy an extended warranty!!)..........

If you bought an extended warranty then you'll be covered for whatever the extended warranty will cover.

the warranty i got was about $1500 and good for 3 years or 24,000 miles, and &200 deductable. it is the same as the factory coverage from new. used to you could transfer a warranty for about $100. i can cancel the one i bought if i would like....tks ed

I would keep the extended warranty you bought then if your happy with what it covers,Theres nothing of the factory warranty left other than the sheetmetal "rust through" and the "Federal Emissions" warranty which covers the catalytic converter & PCM.

And today,if theres any of the factory warranty left,you do not have to pay anything to transfer it over,You don't even have to do anykind of "transfer",You just take the truck into the dealer and have the work done.

That was for the previous customer who bought a "GMPP" extended warranty,It would have gotten canceled whenever he traded/sold the truck,Then he would have received a refund for the "unused" time left on the warranty.
