Vss Question

Ight i just ordered my 15800000 unit. I was wondering if i need the vss wires? What all exactly do the do? I have read that the turn by turn voice wont work/or as well if i dont have them, and also i want to have control over the dvd/nav while my truck is in motion. With out buying a $200 something dollar "lockpick" from ebay, how is it possible to do? I seen where someone had a switch so they can kill the vss, but is there any options other than that? and in anycase im sure someone has posted how to instal the kill switch for the vss, so can anyone give me the link or the info.

Here's a few differnet ways to get to the VSS...this is just info I compiled. I got a ton of info on it from /www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com

 

I think that I'm going to go with the universal GMlockpick kit. It doesn't do the Navi unlock but it will give you DVD playback.

 

Then I'm also going to go with the IPOD lockpick.

 

I wish there was a way to do it all with one unit, but from what I have been (mind draining) reading and researching I don't think you can.

We just did the VSS switch on my 06 today. It was a real breeze once you found the wire. Works real good. Here where the wire is on the clip to the back of the radio. I think it's the middle clip.

 

There's where I mounted my switch for now.

 

Went to Radio Shack and got a lil switch and it was all good.

 

Maybe this info will help another who does a search.

hey thanks man, im glad you came around to help. I just had to read many of different post in many different places to find info on the nav topic in general. I really appreciate the pigs man, looks great and will use these pictures to do the same on my truck when the nav

unit arrives on my door step.

Oh yeah, I just got a SPST (single pole, single throw) switch simple off and on. Get them at Radio Shack for less than 4 bucks.
