Abs Light On.

Have had an ABS light on for more than a year. I have to get an e-check and the MIL said they failed her minivan because of an ABS light (makes no sense, but neither does emission testing an OBDII vehicle that has not thrown a code).

So, I figured it was probably the bad brake module and took it off to send to module masters.

Anyhow, my screws were corroded - I got three out and had to drill and tap the forth - so I had to remove the whole assembly.

While I had it on the bench, I figured I'd hit the pump motor with 12 volts just to confirm it spins up OK. It didn't.

Took it apart and found no continuity between the plug leads and the bruses, and an open circuit between the two leads.

Anyhow, when I scraped through the shrinkwrap tubing where the wires go onto the motor, everything inside was green. Both wires had corroded away to nothing inside the shrinkwrap.

So, this may fix my code problem. Rockauto doesn't have a listing for the pump. Is there a p/n from GM?

I may be able to expose enough non-corroded terminal to resolder the connection. Would like to get a new motor if it is available.

I can't say yet whether this will fix my problem, but anyone with an ABS light on could unplug the pump motor from the controller box and hit it with 12v to verify it works.

I'll see if I can't snap some pics of what I found...

Got some pics in the wife's digital camera. I'll try and post later.

Did expose enough of the corroded terminals to clean up the copper and solder the wires back on. I shrink wrapped them and, since that didn't work all that well for Kelsey-Hayes, I covered the area where the wires meet the motor face with a big blob of RTV and tied the wires to the motor with a cable tie so they don't vibrate around.

Now the motor turns when 12v is applied.

Motor is back in the valve assembly and its about ready to put back together and reinstall.

Crossing my fingers that the light stays off...

Still don't have the pics downloaded, but she's back together and working great.

I almost can't wait for some slippery streets to feel the ABS work again.

I won't miss that ABS light...
