Tuners Increase Mileage?

Recommended Posts

I am new to this forum and am looking to improve my MPG as most are. I just added a CAI (True Flow) which did add 1 MPG. Do tuners really help and which one to get that will allow you to save factory settings if I need to go to the dealer?

Easy.

Reduce the unnecessary weight, bolt on headers/cats/cat-back exhaust that is less restrictive, then get a custom tune (or Hypermax) and you will see a slight improvement. Keep in mind these will not give you a huge increase but you can expect to see a slight increase.

Welcome to the forum.

I am attaching a link to my post concerning my Hypertech Max Energy. I am sure there are Custom Tuners avail that can produce a tune to outperform a hand held like a Hypertech. However, I chose the HT for several reasons and so far have been very happy with it. Take a look at the link and you can see my MPG results so far.Hypertech

Hi there and welcome to the forum. I am quite new here too and it is a really good forum.

I've done a lot of research and reading on mods that will increase performance and MPG in preparation for my new Tahoe that is on order. What I've found, and what is mentioned in this thread, is that mods like a CAI, a less restrictive cat-back (Corsa touring for me), a custom tune, headers, and high flow cats will all small increments of MPG and performance.

On tuners, they can add MPG, but no guarantee. All the reading I've done on tunes has shown that a Blackbear Performance custom cable tune is a wonderful way to go. Other people have shown good results using hand held tuners too.
