What mods have worked on your truck?

Chips, power programmer?

I need improved gas mileage running unloaded. I just about can't afford to keep this truck, but it's such a nice highway ride, I can't get rid of it either.

Well, I at times hang with a GM F-body club. The LT1 and LS1 engines are the same basic engines used in the trucks. Most of those guys are not worried about gas milage but have found that while headers and exaust give them better track times, they also get better highway mileage. Almost anything that makes an engine breath better will help with mileage when you are not WOT. Now if you spend a lot of time WOT, there is not much you can do. Assuming you have some control over your throttle foot, K&N intake, ported or after market MAF, headers and exaust will help. BUT the two biggest factors the let Camaros run 320hp and get 28mpg on the highway and Silverados run 280hp and get 19mpg are suspension, the more supple the suspension the better the gas mileage and aerodynamics. Not much you can do about that one, get a bed cover if you don't already have one.

Trucks are made for mud, dirt, ice, snow, and water not drags. :) I mean a decked out neon could prolly be a z71 with a 5.3 325 in it.  Just because of aerodynamics like mentioned above.

I beg to differ. I have beaten Mustang V6's before, let alone a Neon. Ask Daren Pickering how fast his 5.3 is. I have heard of 2WD with a few bolt ons beating GT's.

If a Neon can beat your truck, there is something seriously wrong. I can hang with stock V8 Mustangs with my 4.8l
