Curious what you all think about what will happen to the current 0% for 72mos or $5000 rebate on 1500 Silverados. I'm either going to buy one this week or wait until the new incentives come out on the 18th.

I'm thinking they'll get better as the 09's are rolling out real soon, labor day is coming, and all the dealers have BIG inventories of them.

Right now is about the best I think they are going to be. THey are offering pretty damn good incentives now, and with gas going DOWN trucks are going to rebound back UP and the deals arent going to be as good anymore but at least used will go back to where they belong.

Someone knows.

When I ordered my truck in Oct. 2008 there were incentives. And the dealer sales manager hinted that they would be better when my truck arrived after manufacture. Incentives were better when I did pick up ordered truck.

Gasoline is going down. But the economy is still tanking for many. Check statistics like new housing 'starts'. All inter related to construction trades and selling of trucks.

We here up north have a very large multiple franchise dealer - different buildings. I just read his Tundra ad and I couldn't believe the low cost (now) for an extended cab 4x4 with power windows, etc.

Ford has delayed the introduction of the all new 2009 F150 as inventories are still too high for 2008's.

According to Automotive News: 2008 Model Year Vehicles

Ford has 215,000 new trucks built and not sold or 133 days supply

Chevrolet has 167,700 new trucks built and not sold or 117 days supply

GMC has 62,300 new trucks built and not sold or 120 days supply

Chrysler has 107,700 new trucks built and not sold or 160 days supply

Toyota has 224,000 new trucks built and not sold or 100 day supply

From those stats above, there will continue to be plenty of deals all around.

thanks unit731, that's the kinda stuff that makes me think i'm better off waiting. yet of course the dealers keep telling me, "we're making our best deals right NOW! NOW is the best time to buy! you're taking a big risk by not buying TODAY!"

how much under invoice is employee pricing anyway?

Others know much more than I and they can chime in. I think I read here on board that the figure is printed on the invoice. May vary by vehicle but someone stated 3.5% below invoice but please, if someone has better information - then step right in.

what i've been able to negotiate without a problem is $2500 off on a $35k truck, or about 7% off MSRP. they showed me the "invoice," and the $2500 did put their offer at "cost." when i sold for mazda, there was more like a $3000-$4000 margin above invoice on most vehicles depending on equipment.

i feel like they're holding out at least $1k on me.

I've been thinking about replacing my 99 Silverado ext cab Z71 with an 08 version.

I went out to the Chevy website and priced one that came out to $37K. What I want is the extended cab with a either a short or standard box, 5.3 gar or flexfuel, 4WD with Z71 and the sound system with the 6-disc changer. With the current $5000 rebate, that dropped the price to $32K.

I just found out that the GSM (employee discount) has been extended to August 19th and I if I can find a dealer that will honor the GSM pricing which is $32,962 (which comes out to just under the current $5K rebate), the GSM deal can also include the other incentives including the current $5K rebate. That will be close to $10K off the MSRP of the truck I want.

That's a good deal :D

The trick is getting the GSM authorization code and getting a dealer to honor it.

Is there anyone who is a GM employee or works at a GM dealership who can help me with a GSM number?? :D

At SOME point, FS truck production will adjust to demand. Lately, supply has outstripped demand significantly.

Once the production adjustments equal demand, incentives will retreat. The trucks will probably get a little more expensive, as they can't extract as high a proportion of profit via sales volume, and will have to adjust the price to the supply/demand characteristic.

So if you can afford/buy one now, IT IS THE TIME.

Sorta depends on how well trucks are moving in your area. But if you really do want to buy a new truck, now is definately the time. Especially if you've found one exactly like you want. And if they really want to move that truck, and they know you are serious (ie. approved for financing), they'll call ya back with a better offer.

Well said. As plants are closing, I'd agree now is the time. Demand has dropped and oil prices have gone down 20% in the last several weeks.

As you put it, "IT IS THE TIME".

Loving my one month old Sierra. After a month I haven't found a reason to take it in for warranty work. Can't say that has ever happened to me before on a vehicle purchase.

+1

My truck had its 1 year anniversary last week. Approx 14,000 miles. Not one warranty issue thus far.

NEver happened to me either... of course I owned F__ds. :D

i agree that the incentives have to retreat at some point, which i think will be Oct/Nov timeframe when the 08's start to run out and there are good inventories of 09's. i'm really trying to figure out what i should do over the next 8 days. do i go buy one tomorrow, or do i wait until new incentives on the 18th?

the one i want is a white LT2 with leather, but it's more than i want to spend. i was hoping that if GM tacked on another couple thousand to their rebates, it would bring it down in my price range and i'd go get it. going down to a LT1 with power pack + & conv package saves me over a grand, and there are a bunch of them around, so i'm not really in danger of losing THE truck i want.

from the sounds of it, if i can get a GM employee code, i'll get a better deal than i can negotiate, and it'll bring the LT2 down to the price i want. so.......anyone have an employee code they want to share?

I don't know if this plays into your equation but the longer you wait the less there will be in the way of selection. Dealership inventory is already limited in my area to mostly vehicles that I would not consider purchasing because of color, options, etc. I may have already missed out on an opportunity to purchase unless something can be found in an out of area dealership.

yeah, i thought about that beeser.

i have a spreadsheet with everyone's inventory in kansas city. there current list is 43 trucks long and growing now that i'm looking at GMC stuff.....which actually seems to be cheaper than Chev.
