Bar's Leaks Stop Leak

Has anyone here used it? If so, what kind of results did you get? A friend of mine said he used it and didn't have anymore leaks, but did have to change his water pump after about a year. I've got 102K+ miles on my '04 and have developed a leak somewhere. I guess I drove her a little too hard over the years. Anybody's assistance is greatly appreciated.

This is a topic of much debate. It's true that it will stop leaks. However, if you don't do everything right, you could block something in the engine, water pump, radiator, etc. which would be bad. I think the typical problem is the replacement of the water pump. Some people swear by it, others hate it. Me, I've used it with success, but I'd much rather fix the actual problem. It's more of a 'limp home' fix than a permanent fix.

It is a band sid fix added at the factory to all new trucks to prevent warranty claims. (And it works!)This is why you often see trucks develop leaks after the first flush. Consider fixing the truck right instead.

I tried cargo seal-up for a radiator leak - didn't work!

A mechanic friend swears by Alumi-Seal. says he has "cured" numerous headgasket leaks. As in white smoke pouring out the exhaust leaking head gasket!

good luck

Bars Leaks has been around for years and I have been selling it since it was packaged in paper cans similar to old oil cans, just smaller. I have sold and recommended it for years because it is one of the few stop leak products that is safe, will not stop up your heater core or radiator and offers other benefits to your cooling system. I have a 4 oz bottle once a year to every vehicle I have ever owned until my Yuk XL. I run Lubegard's Kool It in it with Dex Cool and Lubegard does not recommend using other chems with their product. For this reason, I chose not to add the Bars Leaks.

According to some tests I saw in an article several years ago, all blocks are porous to a certain extent and will allow some coolant to bleed through the cyl walls over time. According to the article and the test results, Bars Leaks will eliminate this bleeding which results in less coolant contamination in your oil. I cannot promise you this is true but from what I remember, the article and testing certainly looked to be legitimate and well done.

It is also true that many OE mfgs add Bars Leaks tablets to the cooling system at the time of assembly.

Used it on my daughters Pontiac Grand Am when it developed a leak after a routine radiator flush last year. Mechanic told me it was the Head Gasket leaking and would cost to $800 - $1000 to fix.

For a 2000 Grand Am with over 120,000 miles on it, there was not way I was going to put another $1000 into it(not sure if the car is even worth $1000). Went and bought a bottle of Bars, poured it in and have not had a leak on any other problem since.

I've used it in the past with good results. JB "Justice Brothers" is another good stop leak product.

Being that it is a 2004. Do a pressure ckeck on the the system. Find the leak and repair it properly. avoid barsleak and such. You will happier in the long run.

I agree, unless you plan on getting rid of it in the next couple years.

It is a temporary fix but I've seen people use it in older vehicles with pretty good success. One example was an old 82 Suburban 4x4 on a hunting lease that developed a leak. It didn't get used much so we poured a couple of leak remedies in the radiator and it lived on. (after many beers two doses seemed better than one) Not sure how good it actually is for the cooling system
