Hey fellas,

Just wanted to run something by ya.

I have an 04' 2500HD with 19,000 miles. 5 speed manual with 6.0

I only use her to pull my tractors to show once, twice a summer....

question is... I always try to keep the r.p.m.'s at 2000 or less (pulling or not)thinking this should be BEST for gas mileage. But mileage really sucks regardless...is it possible to be driving TOO low of rpm's?? I don't have the balls to run her at a higher range thinking the gas mileage will drop to single digits. I was just wondering if any of you 6.0 guys have experimented and found an "optimal" rpm range. Thanks, Mark

I think when I drove her back for Michigan and was trying to outrun a snowstorm, I was runnin' 70mph and think I got better gas mileage then...just didn't check it then.

My old truck with the 4l80e I couldn't take off without breaking 2000rpms, I could, but it would be a turtle crossing the finish line, not happening in time lol. It got the worst gas mileage of any vehicles I ever had, reason why its no longer in my driveway. What really ticked me off is when it was coasting it always downshifted on me and raised the rpms, so you should be getting good gas mileage with your manual. Keep it below 2300rpms you should be good. Idling alot isn't real good.
