Gm's Big Sale...

Noticed not-too-many posts on here about new truck purchases lately.

Thought there would be a whole bunch more considering the big rebates going on right now.

Anybody out there in gm-truckland shopping ? Buying ?

Or, is this sale, a "too-much,too-late" kind of gig, considering fuel prices, low full-size demand, etc...

The only reason i haven't posted with a new truck is my 5'4" wife felt the tahoe was too big. She wants an Acadia instead and the deals just aren't as good on those. I can probably match it with negotiation alone, and if i do that, then we can wait, and get an 09 optioned exactly how we want it, rather than settling on an 08 that's "pretty close".

If they offered the Employee pricing and decent rebates on the 09's with 0% i would be posting pics of my new GMC now. Ill just play the waiting game...

Ya cuz the Acadia is "cute" compared to the tahoe.

Lets get real though, the acadia is not much smaller at all than the tahoe. Yes, it drives like a smaller vehicle but that is it. The AWD acadia has a curb weight of nearly 5000lbs.

Truck sales in Central / South Texas are way up compared to 30-60 days ago. It'll take a while to regain more strength but now that people see that the sky wasn't falling after all, they will come to their senses...

Where are all of the "Gas will be 8.00 a gallon by Christmas" people now?

It amazes me how many among us are idiots.

EDIT: Thankfully we don't have many of them in here.

after driving them both within 20 minutes of each other, i'll have to respectfully disagree. The tahoe FEELS much bigger than the acadia. the tahoe towers over the wife's current minivan, the aracdia was pretty equivilent is size.

weight wise, yeah, the acadia is a fat pig, but where it counts it feels and is smaller. my wife (again only 5'4") had a hard time putting the thrid row seat down in the tahoe, and couldn't put it back up without climbing in the back. not a problem on the acadia.

that the tahoe rear seat folds to an upright position rather than flat was an issue too. to use the whole rear cargo area you'd have to remove the seats completely, were the acadia's fold flat.

the other thing that works better for her is the acadia's thrid row seat has actual leg room (cause the floorin front of the seats is lower so the seats can fold flat, where as the tahoe's floor in front of the third row seat is about 3 inches below the seat height.

Trust me, *I* prefer the Tahoe, however, i already have my 08 LTZ, so i didn't have a lot of room to say that she had to get the tahoe for the car SHE drives :troll:

I would trade, but then I would be going against all of my trading advise (not to ever trade :troll:)

Prices right now aren't bad and are certainly tempting. Were it not for crap trade-in, I'm sure we would see lots more posts of new vehicle purchases. :troll:

you could buy my truck from me.......

Ok, so this is my first post...

I just bought a 2008 Silverado 1500 ext. cab w/ the 5.3L Flex Fuel V8 that has the AFM technology. I got the LT1 series w/ the z71 Offroad package, convenience package, heavy duty trailering option, rear sliding window, dual climate controls, remote start, etc.

At the time of purchase, which was nearly a month ago (July 29th), the sticker price was just under $36,000...I think it was $35,956 with the Rhino Liner already sprayed in. When I purchased it, they had the $5000 cash back incentive running. After all was said and done w/ negotiations and whatnot, I got the truck for $25,800. Is that a good deal? What's everyone's thoughts?

Since purchase, I have racked up almost 1000 miles so far. I've added Nasta stainless steel step bars, an Access Lorado roll up tonneau cover, window visors/rain guards, and a couple other little odds and ends.

I have to say that I'm very pleased with the truck thus far. I'm on my 3rd fill up and have calculated my first tanks avg. mpg to be 17.14 and my second fill up was considerably better clocking in at 18.42 (true figures...total miles traveled / gallons consumed = mpg). The truck's computer is just slightly off, with a higher figure than what I've calculated when at the pump. I was quite impressed, as most of the driving was on backroads and some main roads w/ average speed anywhere from 35-55 w/ quite a bit of stop and go. I did notice on the highway this thing really excells and I've kinda done a "rough guesstimate" based on gallon consumption and total highway miles travelled and it came in at 22 mpg roughly. My driving style is somewhat conservative. However, I find that putting the "instant economy" selection on the DIC helps me achieve better gas mileage because I can really "feather" the throttle to keep it in V4 mode as much as possible to help save the gas. Once the truck gets a rollin' I let off the gas and then keep a very light steady foot to keep the truck at a steady speed, yet allowing it to maintain the V4 mode. I'm hoping my gas mileage gets better as the truck continues to "break in."

So, that's all I've got! Sorry for the lengthy post, but just wanted to share the info. Hope all you GMC and Chevy owners have as big a smile on your face as I do!:crackup::troll:

No pics as of yet...I was waiting to get my step boards put on, which I just did earlier this afternoon.

I'll take some as soon as I get a chance.

My next thing on the "to do list" is getting the truck "rust proofed" on Monday through the Ziebart place near me. I notice my truck already has rust starting to form on the body mount edges and a few other areas. For $450 I'll have the entire truck undercoated and stuff put into the doors and tailgate...What's nice too is that Ziebart does free annual inspections and re-sprays (if needed) for free. Cheap insurance IMO...

Just curious, but anybody out there have any opinions on this?

Ziebart is a company (been around a long time too) that does rust prevention. It's a franchised business and it's kind of like the old "Rusty Jones" but better. They guarantee and warranty the work done for 10 years and state that if you experience any rust through, they'll actually replace the item/part. There are some posts on here about Ziebart...

My opinion is that if you live in an area that gets snow in the winter and they use sand/salt on the road, then the truck will eventually get abused from that. I live in Massachusetts and travel up to Maine and New Hampshire quite a bit in the winter time to go snowboarding and snowmobiling and the roads and weather absolutely beat the heck out of vehicles in the winter around here. Undercoating it will significantly help the chassis, among other parts, from corrosion. Some people have stated that they've had their vehicles applied w/ the Ziebart product(s) and have never had any rust; even on 30+ year old vehicles.

Check out their website...www.ziebart.com.
