Little Help Please With Tdc Marking

On a '99 GMC 5.7 Suburban K1500, I thought the Harmonic Balancer was supposed to have 2 marks. Mine only has one. Here is a picture of what I was expecting. I have the marker on the lower case cover (number 3 on picture). I can't see the #2 marker at all.

 

Should I ignore #3 marker and just do the screwdriver in #1 or do I have a different cover that does not have #2 and go with lining up the mark with #3?

Your marks should be 1 and 2, if you don't have them do the screwdriver thing just make sure you are on the compression and not exhaust stroke.

Ok, finally got the distributor in and truck fired right up. Idled smoothly and revved smoothly.

 

Took it for a drive and the thing is pinging like there is no tomorrow under load.

 

Is this because the PCM needs to be retrained due to the new cam position senor? or did I mess up the distributor install again.

A crank relearn needs to be performed. It may not fix your problem but it needs to be done regaurdless.

Isnt there a timing wire I think green that you have to disconnect while doing this so that the computer doesnt automatically advance/retard the timing?

Yea you are thinking about older vehicles.

I just realized that you said you replaced the cam sensor. Can you give us the full history here. What was the problem, what did you fix, what steps did you take during that fix. You still need a relearn but that isn't going to cause a ping it could be that you have the distributor in wrong but that will usually set a crank/cam correlation code that sets a light right off the bat.
