Dealer Installed Options?

How would I find out what the original selling dealership would have done as far as dealer installed options. Ive looked over the build sheet for my truck several times because I thought it had the wrong tires on it. I dropped the spare over the weekend and It matches whats on the truck. The build sheet says that its supposed to have 245/70/17's on it nad its got 265/70/17's on it and I havent seen the wheels that are on it on anyother 05 around. Ive seen them on the 07+ and thats really it. Thanks in advance.

Could be that the original owners upgraded the tires when the OEM tires wore out. Sometimes a buyer will ask the dealer to sway tires/wheels from another similar truck on the lot just because it had larger/better tires. If you don't recognize the wheel design as a GMC truck wheel, it's possible that they came from some other vehicle like a Chevy truck or a Tahoe or maybe a GMC Yukon.

Going from a 245 to a 265 may have changed the speedo reading somewhat. Have you tried to check the accuracy of the odometer. Find a stretch of highway with mile marker signs and see if the odometer shows a 1-mile change between signs. If the odometer is showing less than a mile between signs, chances are the tires are not the correct size or the ECM has not been flashed to account for the larger size.

Also, the tire size decal on the driver's door will show what size tires came on the truck originally. Even if an optional size tire was installed at the factory, that sticker will show that size.

They are GMC wheels Ive seen them on new trucks on the lot. I thought that the original owner had just changed the tire size when the old ones wore out, but the truck only had 26k on it when I bought it and I thought it was kinda strange to wear out tires that fast. When I dropped the spare its on the stock GM spare rim and its the same size as the rest of them. The door sticker matches the build sheet as well.

So if the wheels are from a new GMC truck (GMT900) then it sounds like the previous owner may have bought them from a dealer. Many dealerships will add custom wheels and different tires to new trucks and then sell the OEM take-offs.

It's a good way to pick up an extra set of wheels and tires or just do an upgrade to an older truck. OEM tires should not wear out at 26K but it's possible the previous owner didn't like the tires for some reason. Back in '99, I bought a new Silverado that came with Firestone Wilderness AT tires. Those tires lasted just over 42K before they were worn down to the wear bars.

I called the dealer that it was bought at new and of course they couldnt tell me anything..... I guess my main reason for the search is that Im about to tow a trailer cross country and I just want to know the the speedometer is correct and if maybe they had changed the gears in the rear end of it. I also thought that it was odd that the spare had been changed... Oh well it was worth a shot

Dealers here do a lot of tire and wheel swaps. If the wheels are different size, they also swap the spare. There really isn't any record of it other than their sale sheet on the vehicle that they charged for an upgrade. The truck that ends up with the swapped tires just gets sold as it is. One other option we see a lot with dealers it they will install custom wheels and tires on one truck and use the takeoff tires and wheels (often factory alloys) to "upgrade" a more basic truck on the lot to make it sell better. Once again, unless they are upcharging for it, there is rarely any record of it... and then only on the sales sheet. (which very few people see or keep) I've never seen any dealer change any gears.

Your original window sticker is the best reference for your truck if you still have it.,

Rob, all tires have the date they were made stamped on the them. That may or may not help? Look for the DOT and the location they were made and the date. 1005 means that where made tenth week in 2005
