Line-x Question

Hi guys, I need some advice. I'm looking at getting the Line-X spray bed liner for my truck. The problem I have is deciding whether to have it sprayed just under the rail, or over the rail. The company recommends over the rail, but I have a GM soft tonneau cover. I'm worried that spraying the liner over the rail will effect the cover, and cause it not to fit properly. They are charging $430 for under the rail, and charging an additional $75 to complete the over the rail process.

So I guess my questions for you all are these: Which is better: under or over? Will the tonneau cover fit correctly if I chose over the rail? And is the price reasonable for the service?

I appreciate any advice you could give. Thanks!

I think it looks tacky over the rail....go under, especially since u're using a tonneau cover.

no the liner will not affect the cover... put tons of covers on truck with spray ins..

not only that but it will stop scratches from the cover itself..

the liner is at its thickest a 1/8" so theres really not much there..

I got mine over the rail for a little extra protection when loading stuff from the sides and whatnot. Like said above, its pretty thin right over the rails...

Maybe it's just the Flint shop, but Line-X doesn't stand behind their warranty. My father in law had it done to his truck, and a few weeks later had some steel in the bed. Well after getting it out and cleaning the bed, he noticed that the liner was coming off in a few spots. Took it back and they claimed he scraped it off and wouldn't cover it. He's given them plenty of bad advertising over this...I haven't been down there in a while, but the last time I was there, they didn't have many new trucks in the shop.

I went with over the rail. I like it!! Call the folks who sold you your cover and ask them how an over the rail Line X would impact your cover....

I think this is personal choice. It shouldn't cause a problem with your cover as most seem to fit with or without over the rail or even bed rail caps. I did "modified" under the rail and the OEM bed rail caps. My modification to under the rail was to not have them spray the horizontal surface under the rail so the paintless dent guy can still remove dents from the bedrails (GMT-900 bed rails dent if you look them wrong). Since they dent so easily I decided on the caps after I got the liner. I think this gives a more OE look (factory finished look) then over the rail spray on.

That's how mine is. Actually, will be after I drop my truck off at Line-X. The OEM bed caps work well for me and look great IMO.

If it was me I would do over the rail, just because my drop in bedliner has had some wear on the paint, and its noticable if you lift the bedliner, I have been working on this idea for a while, because of the way the bedliner wore the paint I will be installing my tonneau cover over the bedliner, or will have it line x'd before the tonneau cover goes on.

That was the reason that I went with Rhino Lining. My Rhino Liner guy told me he'd even watch me take a pry bar and scrape it off and he'd still fix it. The Line-X dealer around here had a reputation for doing shoddy work and not covering things under warranty. Since I got mine done, the Line-X dealer has switched though. I'm not sure how the new dealer is. I'm still happy with my Rhino Liner.

I'd go over the rail. It's great protection. I decided I wanted a tool box and I didn't have to worry about applying foam strips and things because mine was already sprayed and could do no damage to my paint. I think it's worth the $75.

I didn't really have a choice. My dog put a nice long scratch on the rail right after I bought the truck. It you don't use the bed often go under the rail. Then again if you don't need the rail protection you probably don't need the liner.

I opted for under the rail and put on OEM rail covers. If I damage a rail cover I can replace it and it still looks good.

I was also afraid of the trial and error factor. if the guy taping off the rails did not do it with a good enough line (straight). Once it's on...it's on..screwed up or not. They had none there that I could look at and I feel anyone can get a picture that looks nice. That doesn't mean the guy that is doing your truck (the one you really care about) is the guy who did the one in the picture.

Just my $ .02.

I'd go under the rail, it'll look cleaner around the cover. Just be careful not to scratch around the bed rails. If they get to messed up, go and get the rails sprayed later.
