Windows Wipers Won't Shut Off

I have a 2003 GMC Seirra and my window wipers won't shut off. The variable speed appears also not to be working properly. Between off and just before high speed the speed stays consistant but when set on high the wipers speed up. Is this a dealer fix or can I do it? Thanks in advance.

I just had this problem on my Tahoe. Okay, I had this escalating problem for a while. Does your cruise control work? Does your washer fluid button work?

What was needed was to replace the turning indicator assembly (arm and internal switch).

Assuming the installation procedure would be similar to mine. It is a bit of a pain in the butt to DIY as you have to pull the steering wheel.

I did not try my cruise control but my washer fluid button switch does work. Not really a switch; you just spin the selector down to fluid selector and water sprayed out.

I was hoping it was something simple like just replace the window washer motor and all would be good.

How much was your turn indicator assembly? Pulling the steering wheel doesn't sound easy or fun.

Well I took the truck to the shop so I will let you know what was broke (according to the shop) once I get it back.

Thanks for your help.

Could be the little computer board that controls the wipers and stuff. Have had a few malfunction on me before. It's about a $15 part or so if you by one off Ebay or alot more money from the dealer.

Right on the money, I had the exact same problem a few months ago. I asked my boss about it and he said right off the bat that it was the wiper module. I asked if he was sure, and he said he was 100% sure and that it was a common problem on GM trucks. I replaced it and the problem was solved. :dunno:

You are correct about the wiper module. The wiper module cost me $139 and the labor is $131 or there abouts. How hard was it to replace? The mechanic told me it was under the dash and hard to get to. I probably should have waited but unfortunately driving around with my wiper blades going on was....well driving me crazy. Thanks again for your help in this matter.

The GMT400s have them under the hood mounted on the firewall, and all you need is a T15 (I think) Torx bit and ten minutes to replace it. However, you have a GMT800. I'd do a little research first before replacing it, not only because I'm not sure if he's being honest about its location or not, but also because that's quite a bit of money. I'd check on the firewall first to make sure its actually not there (it'd look something like this). If it isn't there, I'd check into whether it could be the wiper relay since it'd probably be a bit cheaper to replace. I'm not sure of its exact whereabouts, either, but I think it'd be safe to assume it'd be under the dash in a possibly easier to get to spot.

The problem I had was two fold. One was the turning indicator switch ($420) and the wiper pulse board ($60). For me the wipers would only turn off when they were good and ready to, the washer fluid control switch stopped working and the cruise control wasn't working. After they replaced the turning indicator multi-switch the wipers wouldn't park properly which is controlled from the pulse board, so they had to replace that too. Replacing the pulse board is easy if the thing is on the firewall.

What do you need wipers for? Window works right? :fume::lol:

Just Kidding, I figure I might as well say it since no one else has yet. I dont know how hard it is to replace, when I had the problem I let a older guy I know through a family member fix it at his shop. he fixed the circuit board for $20 I didnt ask but it worked the rest of the time I had it. I asked my family member later on why it only cost $20, I was told he took the board out and found where the circuit was broke and soddered in a jumper wire! Like I said i never had another issue with it!

The pulse board on my 2002 suburban is on the wiper motor itself, so you hafta take the wiper arms off and take off the cover underneath then take the pulse motor off. Usually if the wipers are stuck on high it is a bad diode. They are about 3 bucks for a pack of 4 at radio shack if you can solder yourself. Not that big a deal. You can also get the part at gmpartsdirect.com and they call it a wiper motor cover I think for about 80 bucks shipped. If you see one for 20 somewhere it is for the earlier trucks
