Thank you.

My girlfriend got me thinking the other night after asking me a question. If GM went under and you could no longer buy a brand new vehicle, what would you do? My first response was; Thats easy, just keep the trucks we currently have. But then I got to really thinking, what if I crashed it, or it was stolen, burned, or some other way destroyed? Or if it just get really old and rusted away to nothing. Then what? So I started weighing my options. I love the cummins 6BT in the Dodge Ram, I just hate the rest of the truck. FoMoCo has nothing I like in any way. So whats left? Toyota? Honda? Nissan? Mitsubishi? Hyundai? HELL NO to all of those! My blood is red. Next? An International? Ummmmmm I have no where to park it. Isuzu! Yes! I can drive a box truck! Wait! No I cant, they are part of GM, and getting out of the OTR truck business in a few years. I got it, a Jeep! I wouldnt mind a Wrangler (the only real jeep), wait, no, it doesnt have a diesel option. Scratch that! Mercedes! Yes! Mercedes! They make lots of diesels! No, crap, they dont make a truck. Hmmmm. VW! They have a diesel "truck"! WOW! Expensive! Never mind, hmmmmmm.....

Thinking......

Thinking......

Thinking......

Ummmmm What would you do? :fume:

So, I can't comment on HHO again...? :fume:

As I said in the other thread... If GM belly-upped tomorrow and if I were in the market for a new vehicle, I'd do what I did when I bought this one... I'd search and research until I found what I thought fit my needs, go drive those vehicles and buy the one that made me want to buy IT.

This was my first GM vehicle... it might be my last, it might not. It really depends on what they build. If someone else makes a better product that fits my needs, I'll go buy that. I'm not going to buy something that does not fit my needs, just because it has a certain badge on it. Sorry, but that's how I am.

Currently, I'm thinking about one of the new CTS models as my next vehicle, but...... I have to pay this one off first or get enough equity in it to buy-down the value of the next vehicle enough to make it affordable. This is the biggest vehicle payment I've had and I really don't want to go any higher.. I "could" but I don't want to. Soooo... Whatever the 'next' thing will be will have to fit within certain budget constraints.

If I hit the lotto tomorrow, I'd probably pay off the truck, buy a new ZR-1, and probably buy a nice-sized Caddy for a road car...

If GM went, I'm sure Ford and Chrysler would be right behind them, actually, before them. Then we would all eventually be driving Prius's. I don't think it will happen, and I wouldn't drive a foreign vehichle. :fume:

+1

My only difference is that this is not my first GM by a long shot. I've owned 11, but then I've owned 28 cars total, so that tells you that brand loyalty is not something i've been known for. I buy GMs when they have a good product. I *like* GM a lot, I *want* to buy GM vehicles, but let's be honest, not counting the upswing they're on now, there have been some gems, but GM's made a lot of junk in the last 30 years. Cadillac Cimeron anyone? :fume:

+2 I've not driven quite as many vehicles as Karl as I've owned only 10 in 32 years of driving, of which 4 were GM makes. Junk? Ya, remember any of the early 80s X-body cars? Talk about recalls! :fume:

One, If GM went bankrupt, it doesnt mean they close the doors. Plenty of companies have alread gone thru bankruptcy and are still in business.

Second, Why would have to buy new? There are perfectally good used vehicles ont the market.

Third, I have already had a Furd, never again. So I guess I'd have to go with Dodge.

Hmm. I have had 7 vehicles so far since I started driving 8 years ago. 4 of them being GM. I've also had a Mazda, a Nissan, and a Subaru. I had my Chevy Colorado for 4 years...LOVED THAT TRUCK, and now my Sierra, LOVE IT TOO. My dad also works for GM so I get that nice discount, but either way, I would still be driving a Silverado or Sierra as I think they are the nicest among the others. Having said that, if GM were to go down I would just have to settle on the next best thing....I am not sure what that is, but as of now, I don't have to think about that.

Sorry, this is the only thing I could think of

So when you gonna upgrade those stock 40's to some 50's?

...maybe a chrome bug shield too is needed?
