Simoniz Car Polishers

For all you pros out there I need some help. I am in the market for a car polisher. Canadian Tire has this on special this week Simoniz 7-in. Sander & Waxer.

The price seems pretty good for me.

I have never used a polisher. I always wax my truck by hand. Is the Simoniz a good buy?

Did you see the one comment that someone had posted on the ad site? I have a polisher by the same maker, but it was crap. It was one of the ones that you help with two hands and if you put too much pressure on it, the damn wheel would stop turning. It was a pain to use, but this one seems a bit more powerful. I personally would not use this one on my truck as I know I would press too hard or whatever and screw up the the paint surface. I use Meguires and a microfibre cloth and it works like a charm. JMHO.

Big polishers are best left to professional detailers. It takes an experienced hand to use them properly without the risk of wrecking the paint finish. Polishers don't work well when it comes to little nooks and cranies or over uneven surfaces.

If you are just going to use it for applying wax, then its worthless. It may go faster with the polisher, but it is much harder to get in every spot especially if you are going around black plastic. The only reason I bought a DA polisher was for paint correction (black truck) and applying wax. But, I still usually apply wax by hand because I find that I am always positive I got every spot covered with the wax and I don't have to worry about getting the wax on the black plastic.

Orbital polishers are relatively safe and useful for minor polish and wax jobs - BUT - that thing is a circular buffer / sander. Not good if you don't have buffer experience but an awesome tool to have if you do. Even so, they aren't useful with wax... just polish compound.
