How To Find A Good Body Shop?

Recommended Posts

Posted

Anyone have any suggestions for finding a good body shop for GMC trucks? I don't know anyone for word of mouth recommendations. Also, if anyone lives in around Lansing, MI, please let me know if you know of any good body shops in the area.

If anyone is curious to what happened on my 08 Sierra - I used a trailer for the first time in my life. I didn't know about the jack-knife situation and got stuck getting out of the trailer rental place. I put it in reverse, got jack-knifed and didn't notice the trailer smashing the WHOLE side of my truck! I didn't hear anything - these things are really made out of tin foil!

Only advice is look at any shops work before you commit to getting it worked on Ive seen some pretty rough cars made to look beautiful and some decent cars come out looking like crap

and id say to stay away from the macco type shops good body work is never cheap

Just go visit every shop withing 30-45 minutes. That's what I did when I had my rocker panel replaced, and it took me about 2 weeks (I think it was the 6th shop I visited).

Don't go with the cheapest, don't go with the most expensive. Go with the shop that feels right. As soon as I talked to the guy at the shop I went to, I knew he was the right guy for the job (yes, that sounds gay, f*ck off :) ), since he actually CARED. I had to wait about 3 weeks longer than I wanted to, but it was worth it. You want to find a shop where fixing the truck the right way is the first priority, money is the second.

EDIT: and I agree with Wicked, big, high volume, chain places usually aren't a good idea. They want to get you in, out, take your money, and get you on your way. The place I took my truck to was a 1 man shop (took longer, but I knew exactly who was working on it).
