Installing Aftermarket Brake Controller On 2500hd Equipped With The Fa

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have a 2008 2500HD with the factory installed brake controller. My trailer is equipped with electric over hydraulic brakes and the factory brake controller will not control them. I want to install an aftermarket brake controller, but I don’t know how. Here is what I know. Hopefully some one can help me with what I don’t know.

I have found the wire under the dash and the aftermarket brake controller power wire under the hood. But how do I get the aftermarket trailer brake controller signal to the trailer. The dark blue wire should be connected to the trailer plug but since I have the factory installed trailer brake controller, the aftermarket dark blue wire must be tied up some were. I have looked for the other end of the dark blue wire but I can not find it. Where is this wire located?

I would assume it should be somewhere by the hitch and plug, you would have to crawl under the rear of the truck and take a close look at where the harness by the plug is. Does your owners manual say anything?

I have look all around the trailer plug and I can’t see any wire just tapped up. I have even look along the frame to see if it was tapped up some where else.

I believe that the trucks that have the brake controller installed do not have the pigtail for the aftermarket brake controller as there is already a brake controller on the truck. I cant remember where I read that info.

But I also read that the trailer brakes can be modified so that they will work with the brake controller that is built in.

I hope that will at least end the frustration of trying to find something that does not exisit.
