Removing Painted On Pinstripe

Recommended Posts

Posted
I bought my 03 Silverado with the pinstripe painted on and would like to remove it with out damaging the paint. Anyone have any tips that could help me? Thanks.

I've removed them with regular paint thinner (not lacquer thinner). You have to be patient and go slow. You'll also want to make sure all of the paint under the stripe is factory paint. The problem is if it has been on there for years, it will likely leave a darker stripe where it was because the paint will have faded around it... IF it comes off.

Well, I had stripes added and my wifes name on the door of a new truck I bought for her once. Now the truck is gone and so is she, I miss the truck.

Anyway, I was told by my striping guy that I could get it off with ez-off oven cleaner. At trade in time I tried it and it worked like a charm. No harm to the factory paint but the painted on name came right off. You might want to try this in a small area somewhere.
