The Next Great Idea!

Maybe we should have some sort of symbol, or a special line of some sort, so that when a post turns into something that becomes a Shadow of it's former self, and ALL hope of keeping it on, or getting it back on track is gone; we don't have to waste our time running through 5 pages of "he's a homo".. no "your not funny"... no wait.. "your mom's a whore"... When a post has become, well, as we so lovingly call it "EXTENDED" I think that is more than 3-4 posts go completely astray, it should qualify for this "special" symbol, or whatever. or maybe those posts could get edited out? whatever is easier!

What do ya think?

RSS feeds are where it's at, but unfortunately they don't work, not sure if the Admins are working on it or not.

I get what you're saying though, not sure if this Bulletin Board has the ability to auto-detect post-whoring

Man.. if you could auto-detect post whoring......... you could be a millionaire!!! maybe keyword flagging??? I just thought maybe someone who is on here all the time could use a system of fractions... Like if they put a 4/7 by the topic, that could mean that the post goes astray on page four, but returns to topic on page 7.

We do have to be careful what we wish for though...

Post "extending" has gotten out of hand over the last few months. It was the same thing about two years ago... and again about 5 years ago. (yeah I've been here that long... and more). It goes away on its own. The 5 or 6 people making it happen wander off...

There is a fine line between "out of hand" and "completely boring as hell". All of the forums I am a part of have this it comes and it goes sort of flow about them. All seriousness all the time about threads staying on topic makes for a really dull and boring place to be. It might work for some, but most would opt to go elsewhere. We do need to back off on the hijacks. I may cut up with the best of them at times but I do not go for the personal attacks myself.

Have a frikkin sense of humor but leave the "your mama" crap at home... I say.

I understand your point, several resident "post whores" wouldn't :dunno: , but I think the admins would be putting in a hell of a lot of overtime trying to control it. They have a tough enough job as it is trying to keep some of us on track

The kidding, the "banter" as some have called it also keeps things interesting and I feel thats partly (along with some well informed members) what makes this place a success. Just look at the bottom of main forums page in the statistics area:

One member throws a tantrum around April 8 2008 and this forum sets an attendence record. I am not condoning it, just something to think about

If it gets too boring... there are plenty of other places to go on the web. I like the craziness here and the tech help is second to nobody. We have a nice mix... MOST of the time.

I realize and appreciate that some guys only come here for information, however, some guys come here for information as well as a good time.

Sometimes, often, those two things mix.

I can certainly understand wanting to find an answer to a problem in a thread immediately, without any BS along the way, but others need to be cognizant of the fact that those of us who do dick around on here with the jokes and whatnot are usually the ones spending the largest amount of time on the site. During that time, we answer a lot of questions for a lot of people.

YOU ARE A HOMO STOP CRYIN SISSY  . Just kidding I belong to alot of sites, most are for techs only, and this always comes up. The sites that are all buisness become very stale and you have people coming in for quick answers and not staying, more importantly not contributing. Like my sig says if you think you know it all you don't know anything. We all learn here. I think the goal here is some kind of community. I have been getting a little ticked at some regulars with some posts recently and I just scale back a little and stick to the places and people I know I can count on when here...Sorry if I pissed any of you off with my responses :dunno: . I just take a few weeks to scale back then I come back and remember this is a good place to be. The alternatives for GM truck consumers are rarely as good in content for info or fun.

HA! I just found a good use for Ad Blocker! "Block Tobias's fat-@$ beeyotch avatar graphic!"

That is some gross stuff you got there, Tobias...... sick sick sick!

As for marking threads as "this has gotten so far off topic, give it up" ... If it's 20, 30, 40 pages ... bet on a bunch of "not exactly on topic" conversation. Actually, it seems like most threads that get over about 3 pages tend to start straying quite a bit...

And... As an aside... IF we started marking threads like that... Just as sure as we did, the next SOB to come along would start talking about the topic again (just to be contrary)... :dunno:

I don't want to be contrarian or controversial but I have an issue I would like to discuss. Sorry for the thread jack. It has come to my attention that many minorities are stealing music, installing it on their Ipod for use in their hho modified trucks. I have fired off letters to both candidates and their running mates. Obama replied we should explore hho as a life saver to everything, it will make us oil independant. McCain said he wished he had an Ipod in Nam. Biden said shut up stupid and Palin said I fought against that as a mayor of 2,500 people in Wasilla. Who do I vote for?

Come for the advice and stay for the comedy! This place can really be a riot. As long as one has their humour fully engaged.

Sites and lists that are too serious and strict about OT can be really dull. Unless one of the tech subjects is actually interesting. I know I'm on a number like that.
