I just tried to burn some mp3s to a cdrw disk useing nero and play them in my stock cd/amfm radio, all i got was "err"   the software warned that some cd players cannot read cdrw's

can this one read cd-r's? I do not have any to test and find out is anyone doing this what media are u useing?  I would like to find some 16x media as that is the max speed of my burner

am I just screwed until I buy a new head unit?

My cd head unit plays CD-R's just fine.  My DVD changer in my room won't play burned CD's though, gives me the error message.

What color are the discs you're burning?  I've heard some people say that the darker color ones work better or something.  Beats me, never had a problem except w/ my dvd player.  I've just got some compusa special non-name brand CD-Rs, 20 bucks for a 100 pack.

You're using CD-RWs???  Doesn't that get expensive?  I only use CD-R's.  I figure for 20 cents each it doesn't matter if I want to change the music around.  CD-RW's will be more prone to giving you problems.

Buy in bulk, you can get CD-R's exceedingly cheap now.

Like Jon said, use CD-Rs. They also have CD-Rs for just music. Another thing to watch out for is how you burn the cd. I'm not sure how Nero works, I use Easy Cd Creator and I have 3 choices to "finalize" my cd. Finalizing the cd allows me to play them in stock am fm / cd units.

My gf had a discussion at bestbuy about a month ago when she got her new headunit.  THe guy stated cd rw's dont play in vehicles because it doesnt burn as deep (cd-r's are basically permanent).

this is the first time I have tried to burn misic I havent had a cd player in my car/truck until now

only thing I used the cd-rw's for was computer backup so it was nice to be able to reuse/rearrange

yes I need to find some dark cd-r's  (I heard the dark ones are better too)

I used the wizzard in nero to "make an audio cd" there wre no options for finalization I figured it would know how to make an audio cd

I may use the full config window next time

I've got both adaptec and click and burn pro.  Both are great programs, click and burn pro is just a simpler one.  If you've got a decent internet connection try and download one of them off Kazaa.  If not let me know and I'll send you a copy of click and burn pro.  It automatically finalizes all the CD's at the end of the burn.

How fast is your computer?  You'd need one w/ a fast processor to burn at those speeds and you'd be very likely to get a lot of errors.  Mines an older burner and the max speed is 8x I believe.  But I always thought that you were limited by your computers speed when burning.  I don't do anything over 4x and that's w/ a PIII 450.  When I get my 1.2 ghz computer in a few weeks I'll be able to unleash it's full potential, but for now why bother.  I burned about 14 cd's last night in the matter of 4 or 5 hours.

Im with Chevy, dont think you are going to be able to 16X....use CD-R's.....I dont think CD color matters ....simply put, for music CD-R's work. CD-RW dont.

Sounds like the one I'm building.  I got a barebones system coming off ebay.  An Athlon 1.2 gig w/ 128 megs ram and everything else you need but a hard drive and CD drive.  Got it for a steal, 288 w/ shipping.  And I ordered a 30 gig 7200 rpm drive for it from pclink200.com

Let me know how the 16x CD's work.  I'm not sure if I will put the CD R in the new comp or just leave it in the compaq.  I'll have to see.  I know when I get it, I'll be spending a long weekend yanking stuff out of computers and switching everything around.
