my check engine light came on after pulling a friends truck out of a ditch. i had to jerk a few times ( not real hard ). i went to autozone and code showed P0449. i got to looking under the truck and notice the , i'm guessing the vent solenoid dangling off its clip. i put it back and undid the battery cables to reset code ,but it came back on again. where should i start?

Disconnecting the battery will not reset the codes. Have the part store reset the codes for you.

THANKS . I will do that before I start changing anything .I always heard you could reset them by disconnecting the battery . Is there any other way to clear codes with out going to part store ?

Yep, the code will reset itself in 3 to 5 cycles when the problem is corrected.
