Hello im trying to get some info or see if anyone has gone threw this problem that i have. My 05 tahoe recently started reading zero on my oil press. gauge. Oil reads good on my dip stick, but before i take it to get check and spend some money, im trying to see if anyone has gone threw this? have had no problem starting truck and driving it, but i'm kind of scare of driving it without and explanation of what could happen. Im wondering if it could be the sensing unit or cluster? and if it is. See if anyone has done something that worked for them. any help would be great.

you will need a GM tech 2 to help with this. My guess is its the oil pressure sensor/switch. But it could also be a bad PCM or an intermitten connection somewhere.. or the cluster could be bad. Theres a number of things lol. Best bet is to take it to the dealer... i know its expensive but... unless you have the proper tools.. you cant really do much.

To Really find it.. you need the tech 2 to activate that gauge on the cluster.. and to see if the gauge moves back and forth when commanded. If it doesnt move when commanded.. then right there it tells you a bad gauge or no good connection to it. But if it moved.. then either the switch or pcm is bad.

hope this answered your question.

For one, oil level and oil pressure two different animals. You can have plenty of oil and no pressure, but don't fear.

The clusters have been know to go bad on the year/model you have. This is probably the case. The only way you could have bad pressure is a bearing clearance failure or sludge buildup. If you have been doing the scheduled maintenance or taking care of the vehicle you should be fine. As Brian (holy huge sig) said a Tech2 could verify the gauge. Otherwise, you would have to pull the sensor, and take a mechanical reading. This will either prove that the gauge or sensor is faulty.

If you have any doubts, get it towed. No sense taking the risk of spinning a bearing.
