87 Full Size With 350 Popping Out Of Tbi At Half Throttle? Help!

i Just picked up an 87 1500 4x4 with a 350 drove and ran fine when I purchased it for all of $1100 But now after setting for about a month its popping out of the TBI at around Half throttle off of a light it popped and died!

Plugs look ok (they are Bosh platnums) wires look pretty new and no burned ones and the cap and rotor are in good shape. Im thinking its a timming issue maybe??

Any help would be great! Im a bit lost on why its doing this.

Thanks for the help

I am willing to bet your injectors are dirty and causing fuel to build up in the intake. Pull the injectors and have them cleaned. Should do the trick.

Yep, injectors need cleaning/replacement more than likely. When it's running, look closely at the injectors. There should be a fine mist coming from them. If you see any dripping or anything inconsistent, that's the problem. Soak them in a carb cleaner in a cup and take a tooth brush to them as well.

Good luck!

thunderace31; If you want a suggestion on how to check the injectors, get a timing light and aim it down the throttle bore. The fuel should look like fog. If its looks drippy like water out of a shower head, they need to be cleaned, bad.

Thanks! Ill check it out I did clean the Throttle body with TB Cleaner and a tooth brush but I guess thats not going to be good enough??? :idiot: Ill use your trick tomorrow and see what I end up with and post back the results I really hope its something this easy! Power seems down now as well and if you nail it it runs like a beast! Idles fine too! Just part throttle and at certin points not very consistant its like it bogs and then cleans out again

I should probly add that the TB was BLACK and I mean BLACK so black I used a full can of cleaner and could have kept going with it! So Im thinking your right! :idiot:

I had a TBI that caught the top of the carb on fire on a late 80's S10 6cyl so be careful of those backfires! Although unrelated, I'd also check the PCV valve, clean/replace it. I wonder if backfires can mess them up?

Well I went out in the cold and messed with it today and it looks like its raining out of the injectors most def. not a cloud even with out the timming light its was very rain looking.

Whats the best way to clean the injectors?? And can they be cleaned?? I know I have seen the little kits of cleaner you put on the fuel line and run the truck on it till it runs out would this work?? If so where do I get one I looked for it at the auto parts store but they didnt have it at Murrys or Advanced. I got a big can of carb cleaner but not sure how you would soak them in it since its in a can and spraying it into a can would be a holly mess I would have to think lol.

Your adivce on what to do next will be very helpful and I thank you for it

I would take the cap off a pressurized can, like a spray paint can and the carb cleaning cap and spray in the middle area of the cap that is smaller and fill it up enough you can put the injectors in and get them soaked. Should'nt take long, maybe 5 min. Spray some into the inlet as well and let it set. That should dissolve what may be causing the blockage. Putting an additive in the fuel is like brushing your teeth. It's something you do often as a preventative measure. Your intake has a cavity...gotta get right to the source of the problem and clean it out! :nono:

I would take them out and have them cleaned at a shop. That way they can also flow test them. Or, you could just buy a new set and replace the old ones with them.

Adams method should also work, but it will be a real PITA and may not work. Good luck.

Assuming you rule out all ignition and fuel system issues....

I would also put a vacuum gauge on it and monitor it as you accelerate. If the needle starts fluctuating wildly, you could be seeing the beginings of a flat cam or a valve/valve spring issue.

Best of Luck,

Keith

Well there is nothing in the oil no metal or bearing of any kind very clean. The bad news I found the issue when I took the injectors out the bottom of that the inj. go into has 2 large cracks in each side. Fuel is leaking out into the tb at all times. Injectors were super dirty to black on the inside tons of goop came out of them when cleaned. Bad part is I cant find the part I need to fix this and the Auto parts store wants almost $500 for a complete new unit or I can get one from jegs for 460$ shipped maid by holly that flows more and has a 2 year warrenty vers is the 1yr at the auto parts store. Im sunk dont have the cash for this right now but need the truck as I just sold my dd yesterday! UH!

I would check some wrecking yards in your area. It's likely they'll have one.
