Denali Grille Issue

hey guys, new to the site... but not to the forum world...

 

anywho this isnt an introduction.. but more of a question...and or asking for help lol

 

but i bought my 07 sierra in december of 07 from royal gmc in selma, these guys put the denali grille on the truck and it looks amazing! although unfortunately the bottom bumpre grille fell off! yes it fell off!... now i believe its because of the bottom front balancer.... see since they also lowered my truck (3x5) the front balance is so low that if i park to close to the curb it pulls or pushes a lot... thats why i park reverse.. anywho.. the bottom part of the grille fell off because when i first had the truck i didnt know the dimensions well and i hit the curb a few times when parking and i believe it snapped the clips on the bottom where the balancer is, and it was left with one screw holding that part in, i have also replaced the balancer... the dealer replaced that with no issues

 

they wont replace the grille because it was caused by me "parking"

 

anyways i am asking for assistence on how i can put this back in.. i was thinkin some self tappers on the sides and into the bumper...i dont wanna buy a new one because im short on cash for the holidays.... what do yall think? if u want i can take piks.. if u need to see the peice im referring too

Are you talking about the lower deflector or the actual chrome grille insert? If you have a pic, that could help...

OK, that's the lower grille insert. I just snaps into the valance with spring clips. You could probably use self-tappers to reattach it...if you can find a good place to anchor that will also conceal the screw heads. If you do this, be careful not to over tighten the screws since the lower bumper piece is plastic.

true, i looked under thier and it looks like thiers no where to anchor it so im guessing the only way is to self tap it in the bumper..

 

i gotta do it soon, my baby looks like crap with a huge hole thier lol.....

I don't want to hijack this thread but I am having a hell of a time trying to install my Denali grille in my 09 GMC. It looks like the painted urethane upper bumper cover has to come off first because it has long tabs that go through the lower part of the grille. I can't figure out how to get it off. I have removed the 2 bolts on each side in the fenderwells but I can't determine what else is holding it on. I t feels like it should just pop out straight but there are some kind of hidden fasteners holding it in. It looks like I might have to remove both inner fender liners or the front bumper to get access. I have the grille retaining clips removed and the grille is loose but there is no way you can tilt the grille enough to clear the long tabs on the urethane cover. Please help if you know how to get this damn thing off. I have sworn and cursed at it but that didn't scare it at all! Thanks.

You are correct, the upper bumper cover does need to come off. But that is all. After removing the 4 scews (2 in each fender lip), you just need to firmly pull the bumper cover out. It is clipped in, no other fasteners. It does require ALOT of force, so be firm, but don't f**k it up.

Well, I have news for owners of 2009 GMC half-tons. DON'T BUY A NEW GRILLE UNLESS YOU'RE A CONTORTIONIST WITH THE HANDS OF A FIVE YEAR OLD! Apparently when they changed to the HD style bumper (with the extra cooling slot and rubber bellows that directs additional air to the rad) they changed the upper urethane bumper cover mounting. There was no way that cover would pull off so I removed several of the fasteners that hold the front wheelwell liner in and reached my hand in. There are at least 3 bolts per side that hold the urethane cover to the sides of the rad support. Problem is, you can't get to the bolts. At a minimum it looks like both front wheels have to come off along with the fender liners and at worst the front bumper and headlights as well. I have every tool in the Snap-on catalog including flextensions, swivel sockets, ratchet wrenches etc., and there is no way to get at the bolts. Anyone want to buy a new Denali grille, insert and lower deflector? Maybe I'll start a new thread to give the owner's of 09 GMCs a heads up.

Sorry, I was just frustrated and being sarcastic about selling the grille. I'll get it on if it kills me. By the way, I'm in Canada and most Americans probably don't know how GM rapes us as well as their own dealers on parts. Canadian GM parts departments pay more wholesale for their parts from GM than the American retail price. For example, Canadian retail on the Denali grille part# 25825522 is $631.25, U.S. retail is $503 but you can get it at GMpartsdirect for $309. Problem is, GM partsdirect will not ship to Canada. I have a wholesale account with my local dealer and paid $505. A really good example is the push button 4X4 switch on 99 to 07 trucks that always fails. Canadian retail is $140, U.S retail is $65 but you can get it for $35 at GMpartsdirect. When I told my dealer that the U.S. retail is $65 he told me his cost from GMCanada is over $100 and that he'd happily pay $65 if he could because he sells several per week.

That's odd, I have the high flow bumper with the slot and the internal air deflectors, etc and mine did not require removing any other fasteners. Are you sure the fasteners you are referring to are holding the upper bumper cover on? Like I said previously, I only hade to remove the 4 (2 per side) in the fenderlips, and the bumper cover snaped off (after removign grille fasteners of course).

 

Did you check daddy's sig link for pics/instructions?

 

BTW, I am on my in-laws computer which is dial-up and slow as hell, so I may not be online much until later this evening or tomorrow morning.

 

Keep trying, I am betting you don't have to do what you think you do.

I really do appreciate your input VMax 2007 but the cover is definately bolted on at each side. There is no way you can pull the corners of the cover away from the front fenders as shown in Daddys pics. In Daddys pics you can see several holes in the ends of the cover where he has peeled the cover away from the wheelwell and thats where the bolts are. Perhaps it has something to do with Canadian spec trucks as our federal bumper regulations are stiffer than U.S. regs. The whole front of the cover pulls out over an inch it's just the extreme corners in front of the wheels where it is fastened.

I am not saying you are wrong, you probably aren't. BUT, I will say that I went through this same confusion and even saw some bolts in that area that I swore were holding that bumper cover on too. It was really deceiving. I even went to a body shop to see if they could tell me and they couldn't, and they would have wanted a buttload of money to do it for me, so I went home and gave it another shot and I got it. It took ALOT of force to get the thing unsnapped, but it worked. I was just very careful and I was able to pop it loose.

 

I am VERY curious now, so please keep me/us informed on what you discover.
