The ones we carry in our truck has hooks on it, but the magazines I used to read say don't get hooks.  I say its a toss up.  We use ours for many other things other than towing, so hooks are needed.

I just went down to the local tractor supply store and bought mine.  It was rated at about 30000lbs, which is more then enough to be freeing stuck vehicles.  Like I said in the other thread, its around 20' long, but I'm not sure.  I wanted the extra length to give me some room so my truck can get far enough away from the sticky stuff that I don't get stuck.  LOL

The one I bought only has the machined loops on the end, I didn't really want hooks.  What I did do though, was go buy a big clevis that fits into one of the holes on my bumper.  I wrap one end of the strap to the other vehicle and hook the loose end up to the clevis on my bumper.  Seems to work good for me.

It all depends on what you plan on towing.  If like me you get a lot of cars to pull out of the snow hooks are good.  I personally carry one w/ two hooks and another that has loops.  I also carry two big 15,000 pound shackles in my truck, just in case.   JC Whitney has some good emergency tow ropes for about 15 bucks that have two hooks, are 15' long, and are rated for over 10,000 pounds.  I know Checker Auto carrie some tow straps rated for 30,000 pounds.  Just look around, you can find some pretty good deals.  I have the Steel Horse Cab Packs under my rear seat so I carry Misc. stuff in one of them and the other I have emergency stuff (Air compressor, flares, lights, tow straps, shackles, first aid kit, etc...)
