After Market Radio

I got a question i want to change my stock radio to a aftermarket radio for two reasons one the stock radio on one side the lights don't work and its just time to change. I was told that if i change the radio i have to buy this override box because gm runs there airbag check through the radio only if the door chime comes from the driver side door speaker. They said that if i dont get it it may set off the air bags sometime when the truck dos a check.

Whoever told you this is BSing you. You only need the chime module if you want to keep the warning chimes and retained-accessory-power.

Chime module where would i get one of those and do i really need it? So if i understand you right i will no longer have the ding in the door if i leave my keys or lights on. What is retained accessory power you will have to forgive me i switched to a GM and dont really know to much about them.

Retained accessory power (RAP) is the feature that keeps the power to the radio, power windows, locks, etc., for about 10 minutes after you shut the key off or until you open the door.

Personally, I'd just get the correct GM harness to keep all of the features. Not sure why, but I always liked those chimes and RAP feature. It just felt too... quiet... without them.

That's all i would lose not a big deal how would i be able to keep this feature if i would to buy a aftermarket radio. Pittsburgh i am from franklin but i am stationed out here in AZ

that is a SMALL possibility with the new GMLAN system on the newer vehicles, but not for the GMT800s

I bet it's much warmer out there in AZ!

As for the keeping the RAP, I believe most of the aftermarket wiring adapters like the Peripheral Electronics GMAHLAN, etc., should keep this feature.
