Baseline Track Times For Before The Black Bear Tune

Just got back from the dragstrip.

It is a 1/8 mile track.

Made 4 runs.

The first run was the best one.

10.017 @ 72.33 with a reaction time of .017.

Then it went downhill from there.:lol:

Each run was a tiny bit worse the the previous one. Kinda strange.

Worst of the four runs, was a 10.229 @ 70.54.

My reaction times were all over the place.

First run reaction time was .017, which was good. Then I had a .220, the a .443 and finally a .261.

It is pretty obvious that I haven't done much racing lately or I would be more consistent.

But at least I have a baseline to compare to for after I get the tune.

Mike and Jim,

The times are for the 4.6L Cadillac DTS.

I don't really know if that is good times or not.

Anyone with opinions .. PLEASE chime in.

I WISH that my 4.3 van ran this good.

They are ok, I would want to see what the trap speed in the quarter mile would be....and maybe the mile (not likely)...means that if your vehicle did 10.229 @ 70.54, it might run the quarter in 16-19 seconds...not bad all things considered when one considers that the 4.6L will be awakened

Anywhere I could take the truck to run down the drag in (or around) austin texas?

Awesome! :jester: I look forward to seeing how it does post blackbear. Those are not bad times for a big car. I would say those 1/8 mile times should put you in the low 16's in the 1/4. The average car with a low 10sec 1/8 time will run low to mid 16s and if that DTS leaves as soft, but pulls as hard at the top end as most of the caddy's I have been in I would think low 16's and possible high 15's.

Yeah the DTS is cursed with 3.11 gears. Seriously how hard would that boat run if you had some truck gears in it? You won't beat many off the line, but crap I bet that caddy is a monster on the highway.

Actually I think mine has 3.73 gears and it IS one fine automobile for covering long distances.... QUICKLY. :D:D

I have taken trips where, on an all day drive, I AVERAGED over 85 MPH...

And thats INCLUDING pit stops and getting more fuel.

Last night, at the track, on my BEST LAUNCH of the night... about two car lengths out... the DAMN STABILATRAC kicked in. Bogged it down BAD .. just for a split second.. but killed both my time and et.

I had been running in the left lane...

That lane was real sticky and I was getting some pretty bad wheel hop. (And THAT ain't good)

The last run I was in the right lane. I lined up a few inches to the right of where everyone else was leaving from...

I came off the line HARD.... it was getting some JUST RIGHT wheelspin, to keep the rpm up, but NO wheelhop and was REALLY PULLING HARD...

I could JUST TELL that this was gonna be the best run that I had made all night. :D:D:D:D It was by far the strongest launch I had made all night.

The torquesteer from the front wheel drive pulled it a little to the right.... and BAM... the Stabilatrac kicked in to straighten it up and killed me. :jester::cheers:

Ticked me off. I left and went back home.

Before you ask... Traction Control can be turned off but Stabilatrac CAN NOT be turned off.

Hmmm... I was hoping the 10.1 would translate to better 1/4 mile times than that.

I was fantasizing about high 14's. :cheers::lol::D

But after all.. it is a big Caddy... Not a 66Nova. :D:lol:

But as you noted... It WILL NOT pull hard till it is wound up. Then it goes pretty good.

It doesn't even START running good till after it passes 3500/4000 RPM. Then it does pretty well. (for a big ole boat) :D

As I noted on my post to "svensk" ...

On my last run.... It came off the line with some wheelspin and thus the RPM was up where it needed to be. It was pulling REAL STRONG... when Stabilatrac kicked in and messed everything up.

It has new 245x50x18 Brigestones on it.

They are pretty wide and fairly sticky for street tires.

I missed your call Sunday, about going to the track. I did get a couple of videos of some runs... not the best or most "controlled" of circumstances. But, it's better than nothing. I just wish I could've stayed in it better... "Next time," we'll plan on going to the track and getting some times together.

Not the best sound or video quality (from my cellphone). But, it'll do ... for now. :jester:

Before Blackbear, with the Predator Tune

EDIT : Maybe we can plan on going down to Ennis and get some 1/4 mile times, instead of 1/8 mile times.

That's pretty impressive Michael. Looks like about a 6 sec 0-60. :jester: It will be interesting to see how it will compare after your tune.

Thanks, Jeff! I'm curious how it runs after the BB tune, too. For some reason, I've never been able to get the Predator Tune "just right" for take-offs. If I'm already rolling good and get on it, I don't get any clattering. Doing zero to whatever runs, though, I always get some clattering, as it starts winding-up... So, I have to ease out of the throttle some. I'll be curious to see if we can get some "all out" runs, post-BB.

I still need to find the 2nd half of the charger piece for the "real" video camera....... After you mentioned doing some drive-by videos the other day, that sounded like a pretty good idea. (Yes, pun intended. hehehe)

Front wheel drive is the worst platform to race with, it's really inferior to all other drive trains.

Yeah... I know.... :jester: ...

But it is all I have, except for my 4.3L Cargo Van.

At least the van is rear wheel drive... like God intended vehicles to be.:D
