Ok guys, I just ordered HIDs... They should be here in about a week. What I need to know is how did you all turn your head and fog lights downward as to not blind on coming traffic?

Scott,

I have a question, what's oncoming traffic? Just kidding. I do wonder though if you do that are you not defeating the purpose of the better & brighter lighting? If you lower the angle you're taking away some of what you gained on the upgrade. I would make sure they are factory accurate and drive around a bit and see if everyone is flashing their highbeams at you. Then hit them with yours and show them what real highbeams are.

I used to do that to everyone with those lights as well as any of the new super bright replacements. It took me a while but I realized I was being the knucklehead. They were not aimed in my face, just "different" than what I was used to. If you want it, I'll list the rather detailed book method for checking the lights' settings and how to adjust them. It only cautions on bringing the driver's side light in a bit from oncoming traffic. The passenger's side is usually set straight ahead. FWIW, I found that a foggy night and some masking tape on my garage door was much faster and way more accurate. Good luck.

I dropped mine about 1 1/2 turns on the adjuster and I lowered the driving lights WAY down. I still get people flashing their lights at me. But it is usually someone who has no idea that there technically is a up and down on a sealed beam replacement (one light straight ahead, the other pointing roughly straight down so everything is bright to them.)

For headlight adjustment, locate the two adjusting screws, in the radiator support. One is a horizontal and the other is a vertical adjustment. Use a t15 torx to adjust. Park the truck 12 ft. away, on a level surface, square with a wall or garage door. Measure the center of the headlight, and use tape, to mark this measurement, on the wall. Turn on lights, and the top of the light beam, should be 2 in. below the line. For fog light adjustment, park 2-3 ft. and same procedure, with the light beam, 1/4 to 3/4 in., below the center, of the fog light measurement. Source 1999 Helms service manual.
