Dic Switch Upgrade

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hey everyone,

A while ago I posted a question about upgrading my 2008 Sierra SLE with a DIC switch that is supposed to allow me to view the full capabilities of the computer (Fuel mileage, Tire pressure, Engine mode, etc...).

Here is the link to my origional post:

http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?...83644&hl=V4

I called my dealer and they have the DIC switch, however, when I explained to them what I intended to the service guy told me that he never heard of this upgrade being done and he was pretty sure that it couldn't be done.

???

Daddy's thread explained the procedure on a 2007 SLE so I was wondering if anyone attempted the upgrade on a 2008? I know there's probably no difference between the 2007 and the 2008... I'm just wondering.

Billdog350 also mentioned in my thread that he did a RPO code upgrade before installing the DIC. Does this need to be done in order for the DIC to work? If that's the case can someone post the procedure on how to do the RPO upgrade?

Thanks!

Here's the very last post in my thread and Mark has a 2008. It's plug-and-play. Just buy it and plug it in, you'll be fine. Not one person who has tried this has not had it work.

EDIT: BTW, Billdog350 has a GMT800, not a GMT900 so disregard what he said completely.

Hey, did you have any trouble taking your old panel off? I picked at mine to see if it would come off easy with no luck. I'm proabbly having a dumb phase and not doing it properly. :happysad:

Just carefully yet firmly pull it off. Start in a corner and work your way around. I was nervous at first too but, it is very easy. As to the switch being plug and play, don't worry it is. I asked the dealer too at first and they insisted that the wiring was not there. I ordered mine online and guess what? Daddy is right, and my DIC works like a charm. Just go ahead and do it!

I keep seeing all these threads regarding a DIC upgrade and I'm left wondering what would this give me that I don't already have?

I mean, I can already toggle through and see my Fuel mileage, Tire pressure, Engine mode, etc... as it is now. I have a 2008 Sierra SLE

If you already have the set of four buttons shown in this picture then you already have the advanced DIC. This unit will allow for you to change things such as entry and exit lighting, chime level, auto locking/unlocking and will also display other info such as timers, hour meters, fuel used, etc.

I did mine after Daddy did his. It took about 3 minutes and works like a charm.

Go for it.

Why is there always an idiot at the dealership whose only job is to tell people that this shit won't work? Frikkin Einsteins!

Because they don't know s**t, every time I go to my dealer and ask the service department about some accessories install I get frustrated, they don't even know about the stuff that GM offers on the accessory catalog, I feel like I'm in a Ford dealer.. :happysad: it's unbeleivable...and the part department sucks too, bad attitude and no interest on selling.

I don't understand why the DIC switch isn't standard on the SLE. It's not overly expensive. The switch is only $45.

It's stupid to pay out more money for the plastic molding. It cost's more than the switch!

I ordered mine today. Thank you all for your input!

The hardest part of the install for me was releasing the headlight switch from the old panel...the clips were tight. I love the DIC upgrade...the additional features are nice and it's a low cost mod. The only thing I'm not able to do with my DIC panel is access the TPMS relearn mode...I still have to use the keyless entry remote... :happysad:

That's odd because I can access the TPMS relearn just fine.

Definitely odd, but I went through every menu of each of the 4 buttons several times and it wasn't there. I held down the buttons on the key fob and, voila, it worked.
