Fyi...the Negative Battery Terminal Is Spring Loaded

So I'm resetting the air flow sensor and computer by removing the negative battery terminal this afternoon (07' GMC Sierra SLT). I go out there and determine is a 10mm nut. Comes off without a hitch, as did the washer. Then I tried to figure out the clamp and T-screw underneath. There was an opening, but before I decided to pry it open, I decided to call.

Call service and the guy I was speaking to was like, "hummm, I'm not sure what you're talking about. Better bring it in for us to check on it". I was like, "Dude, have you changed a GMC battery before"? (FYI, I had not owned one prior) "You do this stuff daily. Can you put me in touch with somebody who would know"? He said, "Let me transfer you to parts, maybe he would know."

The parts guy was nice. Didn't know off the top of his head, but ran out to a truck, and in less than 3 minutes was back saying "Yeah, go ahead and pry it off, it's spring loaded." So the battery cable came off with minimal effort. Let it sit for the recommended 10 minutes to reset, then went to put it back on. With some pliars, I was able to squeeze the clamp back together (a little tougher than expected), put the washer and nut back on, and there you go.

The hardest part was dealing with the "service" guy on the phone....pathetic!

Not being a smart ass but you dont need to take the nut completly off all you have to do it loosen it and wiggle the battery cable and off it comes.

humm. Mine had a death grip on it to the point where the gap to fit a flathead screwdriver in was tough. Even when loosened (before going ahead a prying the clamp), the cable didn't want to budge. When clamping it back on, there was no way I could get it as tight as it was before. I'd be interested in looking under the hood of another one to see if it was as tight as mine.

Yeah, mine came off when I just loosened the nut. Who knows... Gorgeous truck by the way!

Sounds like someone tighten the living crap out of it. Maybe before you bought the truck ?? I just loosened the nut up on mine and it came right off.
