05 1500 Upgrades

i would like to increase the horsepower of my truck. i did a cat back exhaust mandrel bent 6 inch pipe to a high flow muffler, and i wanted some more ideas and opions for what i should do next. i am a diesel mechanic but i know alittle about gas engines but i really dont know where to go next for gains.

ps my stero dosent eject or read the cd in it, any suggestions?

Custom tune is your best bang for your buck. Otherwise, you can do a CAI, long tube headers, super/turbo charger

its the 5.3 and i dont really know much about that block. could it take the super charger?

i dont really know where to go for the chip/ performance stuff i just moved to where i live and i dont know of any truck scenes

Everyone here will say to get a Blackbear tune from Justin. However, there are other guys out there who do mail-order custom tunes. Wheatley and Nelson are just a couple other names who can set you up. I don't know where you're from but Wheatley is from the Houston area, and Justin is always traveling doing live tunes. There is a thread on here about him doing live tuning in the DFW area sometime.

There are also handheld programmers such as Diablo, Hypertech, and Superchips. I have the Diablo in my truck and its a great hand held. Really lets you dial in the tune with its ability allowing you to modify different parameters.

And yes, the 5.3 can handle the supercharger as long as you do the proper upgrades to the motor and tranny.

lol im from edmonton alberta canada so i doubt alot o guys come up here to tune. so would a throttle body spacer help at all? and what all would i have to do to tranny for the SC? i know running a turbo on my truck would be stupid hard

Throttle body spacer won't do a thing since this is a fuel injected motor. They are the biggest scams on the market.

Did you say you used a 6 inch pipe for your exhaust?

TB spacers are junk. Just an expensive paper weight, just like aftermarket MAF's.

some guys i work with at finning reccomend that i do that. i thought it would be waste but he said he got 15 more horse. whats the best CAI for the 5.3?

ya my trucks loud but my buddy says that the biggest u can go without losing to much backpressure. it was a pain in the ass to weld in but i did.

You need to get a new buddy. Do not go more than 3 inch for a 5.3. With the pipe you are running you loose low end torque. With the big pipe you loose exhaust velocity and cylinder scavenging. They may work for a diesel but not on a gasser.

Buckfever is right about the custom tune. Most guys here are going to recommend Blackbear not only because he (Justin) does a great tune, but his customer service is second to none and he is a really good guy. There are a number of other tuners out there, but I don't think I have ever read a bad review about Justin.

I know Justin will, and the other guys may also, mail a data-logging cable to you and send you back a custom tune for your truck.

You will be amazed how much a custom tune will wake your truck up.

how do i get a hold of this justin guy? i never tow anything but i worry about the weather up here changes so much it can be - 40 celsius in the winter and like 30 above in summer and i dont know if that could affect my truck

If you never tow anything, Justin can make you tow/haul mode more of race mode if you want. He can adjust the shift points higher it tow/haul and remove more of the torque management then in regular mode.
